I need to re-home my Mums horse

Due to a bad fall on Thursday, my Mum is in hospital with a fractured spine

Needless to say, she is now hanging up her stirrups!
Ive put an ad up at our local tack shop today to advertise her horse for loan as a companion or hack, but he's 20 years old, do you think anyone will be interested?
You really need to see him to appreciate him, he looks about 10 and is still full of life, but Im worried I wont be able to re-home and as much as Id love to keep him, Ive got two of my own and I just cant afford a 3rd nor have the time.
So what do you guys think? Surely there will be some one out there looking for a nice hack or companion for one of theres.
 
Blimey ML, thats terrible, hope your Mum is going to be OK. Re the horsey question, hate to ask but assuming the fall wasn't because the horse has any major problems (sorry to ask but I dont know this horse) Im sure there would be people willing to take him as a happy hack, if thats what he is? Speaking for myself, his age would not be a barrier to what I want a horse for and assuming hes in good health Im sure Im not the only one who is genuinely happy to have a nice horse to look after and enjoy the occasional plod through the countryside!
 
The fall was coz of my stupid horse! Archie spoked, I fell off and he bolted and Mums horse followed, she held on for ages, but she just lost her balance. Bloody horses!!

Mum horse does have naviculur, but he is sound and has always been Mums happy hack. I just hope I can find him the right home.

Such bad news about your Mum ! Mine too is in Hospital having an emergancy blood transfusion - It is so difficult seeing your parents in a bad way so big hugs !
 
Ouch, poor Mum. Good luck with finding him the right home, I dont know a huge amount about navicular but from posts on here it seems to be a manageable condition with the correct care and knowledge. Im sure someone will come along for him, just may take a little time especially with winter coming unfortunately. What type of horse is he, breed, height etc. If I hear of anyone locally Ill let you know.

I'm sure you will find a home for your boy - be honest about him and consider both sale, loan and or loan with a view to buy - tbh with navicular and his age counting against him he is not worth a lot but from the sound of your post the right home is the priority.

Some people prefer older horses. My daughter and I have, in the past, bought a 21 year old welshie and we still have a 19 year old arab and a 17 year old highland. Admittedly, the highland has been with us since he was a 2 year old but there's a lot to be said for older horses. Vibes for your Mum and good luck with finding a home for Mum's horse.
 

He's a 16.3hh TBx Gelding. He's a lovely boy and good to do in all ways. Mum loves him to bits and its such a sad thing for me to have to do, but I know its the right thing all round.
We would consider selling him, I know he's not worth much so would only sell him for the value of all his gear.
 
Hope you find him somewhere nice to go and when you do try and make the loanee sign some form of agreement and make sure you know exactly where he'll be living so you can go visit him. At work we hear of so many cases where horses out on loan just disappear into thin air - dont want to put you off but if you can do as much checking up/paperwork as you can to avoid it happening to you then do so.

another option may be one of the equine colleges if he's suitable for that type of environment/work? i dont think they buy, but you would know where he is and how he is looked after. is there one near you?
