i need to the confidence to get back on...

Serena2005, is this the same horse you posted about a few days ago asking if you should offer £800 for him. If he has knocked your confidence this much please do not buy him, there are plenty of nice horses around that wouldn't behave like this. Go find yourself something nice and fun. This horse isn't your problem, he's got an owner that can worry about him. And if he ends up sat in the field doing nothing it is probably the best thing for him.

If you rode something nice and safe you would get your confidence back in a week

storm 123. no im not taking hold of him as soon as i get on... when i have got short reins and can keep his head up i can usually stop him from bucking, but last time i thought be relaxed.. so i had his head and i didnt have enough time to shorten my reins enough.
i havent got the confidence to get on on hard ground, i wouldnt trust him not to muck about, hes threatened to do so out on a hack a few times so i think he has got it in him to dump me, regardless of the surface!

Diesel dog. i wont be buying him, as much as i love him and love his personailty (in the stable) theres no way i could afford him and all his problems!! i just dont want to see him go to a bad home that wont have the time for him.

im feeling very poisitive about trying to get on after writing this post, and im going to take it very slowly for both our sakes!!

thank you everyone for all your help, it has really helped me to think about it positively!

I agree with Evil_Cookie, this isnt just a confidence thing with you (which is not surprising!) but the horse isnt right! You cant possibly get your confidence back on a horse who is still regularily throwing you off. I think you need to get a pro to work him for a few weeks to get this nasty horrid habit stopped.

HAve you tried lunging him with a fake jockey on board- we have a horse here that would do exactly as you described when you got on and we worked him for a long time with a fake jockey on until he accepted something on his back. You need to tie it on tight enough that if he bucks it doesn't come off.

we've got Leicester legs!! lol not really a jockey.

i just got back from lunging him now. im starting to tink there is someing wrong with his saddle. although he is tucked up anyway recently when iv lunged (without tack or possa on) him he seems more tucked up today (with tack on).

iv got the physio out on sat and seeing his owner tomorrow i will insist on having a saddler out to check him over, just dont think she wants to part with her cash for a new saddle if shes selling him.
