We lost our deerhound today, he was 15 on the 17th of April and today in the sunshine we had him said goodbye in the garden.
He was the biggest, dopiest and most gentle giant of a dog anyone could ever wish to meet and has worshipped OH ( like his shadow) all his life, we have had him since the day he was born after OH bought a deerhound he thought was fat who actually had a belly full of puppies OH choose to keep Kai and he rarely left his side.
I'm ok, obs very sad as he had been with us for along time, since we where both meer kids but feel for OH who is very sad.
We let him go to sleep in the most lovely way, in his garden with us right beside him.


Very sad but also lovely to have these, so I will share.

This picture taken when he was a gigantic 11 months old, with less hair and OH like a skinny rake with more hair at the age of 20 (he would kill me for posting such embarrassing pics)

No need to reply, just a little tribute to a wonderful dog, a breed I would highly recommend as a pet.

It was indeed lovely DG, I could not have asked fr a more peaceful and stress free way for him to go.
Hard to think I have had him since I was 15/16, it's a big chunk of life but he lived to a ripe old age and passed in the best way he could go, I'm truely thankful for that.

Arghhhhhhh, I cannot sleep, a mixture of todays events and tramadol for me back which ot rather knackered when carrying him out to car for pet crem.
Just to add though In case of confusion, I always called him a deerhound even though OH swears the mother was caught by a deerhound x greyhound, but was kenneled with a young deerhound male when he bought her, but he swears she has been caught twice all the pups where black like mother and we kept in close contact with the lady who took his brother and he turned out the double of the mother who was a pure deerhound, I guess OH choose Kai cos he happened to be the odd on out best choice, he also ended up alot taller than his brother, although he did begin to shrink as he got older bless him.

Sorry, also, that I took so long to get around to looking in the forum yesterday and today. Yesterday was the first anniversary of our losing Tugg, OH's old BT, and it wasn't an easy day, despite Bear bouncing around like a tennis ball on springs ....... So I feel for you both - 28 April will never be the same again .......
