Well, deposit paid on a lovely 3 year old NF pony :), he has been very lightly backed, 4 in March, so I am turning him away for the winter to mature and will bring him slowly back into work in the spring as long as I feel he is ready, starting with all the basics again, he has a temperament to die for and is a real sweetie to handle, saw him caught, tacked up and sat on and he wasn't really phased by anything. I do feel he needs time to mature properly and fill out as a recent growth spurt has left him really spindly and leggy. I am hoping I can split his time between paddock and stable with lots of getting to know each other in between. I am not looking to produce a world beater, I certainly haven't got the knowledge to do that, however I am hoping I can produce a nice safe hacker with the odd show thrown in as I am hoping he will stay with me for a very long time. I haven't ever had anything so young so wondered if he should be being fed anything other than grass, hay and some speedy beet over winter? exciting times ahead

Congratulations :-) He sounds lovely, how big do you think he'll make?

My daughter is currently bringing on our 4 yr old NF mare that we bought at the sales four years ago. They are usually lovely & straight forward & very rewarding, or so we have found!!

If he's a bit 'spindly & leggy', i would be giving him two small feeds a day of a hand full of chaff, third scoop SB, micronised linseed & a balancer, maybe some high fibre nuts as well if grazing is poor. As much good hay as he'll eat & i'm sure that he will fill out & grow.

Good luck with him. I look forward to reading further reports of his progress :-)
