Seriously have no idea what has come over me - went to try a horse today and I rode VERY badly, no leg, fixed hands, no feel, kept missing when jumping (and that is most unlike me) - am going to go try him again in the week, but I felt like a total pillock, I really did. Why does the ability to ride desert us when we are riding in front of strangers?!

Oh God it's so embarrassing and it IS just because people are watching! You're not alone

I bet you weren't as bad as you think though, you will just feel more self-conscious!

Boss was stiffling giggles (she was with me) - seriously I all over the place - bloody horses

Haven't dismissed him and I will crack him, but bloody hell, I think I must have had my mojo stolen!

Yes L, the nice chestnut. Don't think he is the wonder horse for me, but I want to give him another chance

Will take my own saddle and I have told Niki that I want to be left alone and do 30mins flatwork and see what happens!

Am so glad I am not the only one with this affliction - makes me want to keep P TBH!

Boss, you still look super in a defensive seat, whereas my hat goes over my eyes, I have no reins and I almost run into walls

I am horse hunting at the moment, and have tried a few, but I completely go to pieces when I have to ride a strange horse infront of people. Even my novice rider husband told me I was rubbish recently when I tried something, I just could not get the horse going properly - then my 13 year old daughter pops on and gets it going so much better than I did - what a proud Mum I was!!!!!!!

I know what you mean. When I used to look at horses in England it was similar - over here it doesn't affect me in the slightest - not sure if that is because I ride so many horses nowadays and view horses OFTEN, or whether I just know that most folk can't ride here.....

welome to my world.
I constantly critisise my riding, hate anyone watching me.
That is why i mainly hack. No pressure there.

I'm sure you are beating yourself up a little though

Tia you have hit the nail on the head - you ride loads of different horses now, thats my prob, I miss not riding loads and have lost that immediate empathy you develop when you do. PMSL at you last comment! I think I just try too hard rather than just letting the horse work underneath me.

Sprout, we are in similar worlds ATM then - sucks doesn't it!

missgoopy, if I had been videoed then I would be sending the vids to You've Been Framed - the only plus side is I didn't fall off and the fence was a metre at the most I reckon- am thoroughly shamed!

Lol I have this problem sometimes I actually fell off jumping a horse I was trying :O
I went to pot, I still do though when I ride in front of people.

Yes it is likely because of the amount of different horses I ride. Remember when we went horse-hunting....the pair of us looked like a pair of rookies!

I'm so glad is not just me. Sometimes I cannot drive, sometimes I cannot ride! It is so frustrating when I make mistake after mistake when jumping, I know it but still do it again and again! xx

Haniki, you are right, I am lucky, I have got to the stage now of putting her up FIRST when I go to try a horse for me!

She is only a tiny little dot of a thing, and today she took my husbands 16.2hh in the school, and got him jumping, when he point blank refused to for an instructress when she tried!!!

I am looking for a giant paperbag to take with me if I ever find another horse to view!

Deja Vue!!!! You felt exactly the same and did the exact same post after trying someone else. Makes me think it's not the horse for you. You need to find a horse that makes you feel good to sit on it.

OMG, thought it was just me who did things like that

When I tried out our possible new horse, I couldn't get the bl00dy thing into canter
blush.gif
But I did take it round a mini xc course and that was brilliant, I didn't ride like a t*t then

It is very hard to ride strange horses especially established ones because they know there job but you do not know what communciation you need (some need riding, some need leaving alone). I only go and ride green horses much easier!

tell me about it!! i can ride a nice dressage test at home, i can warm i well with a nice bendy flexi horse, but in a test i forget to ride!! i just go stiff and steer the horse around the test with my hands, but no leg or seat!!

Of course you can ride! Seriouslt though it's awful riding a new horse in fornt of people. When I tried out Ellie the dressage mare I used to own, the yard instructor was teaching down the other end but kept trying to 'help' me with some instruction which I found really annoying as she was actually rather patronising.

i rode badly today too, lower leg wobbled constantly and i couldnt keep my feet still in the stirrups, i blamed the fact that ive been ill for a week or that the new stirrups have a rubbish tread on them that is already wearing thin hahahahaha but i think you hit the nail on the head, snap, im just a rubbish rider too. hey dont worry about it, we all have days like this, tomorrow youll be thrilled with whatever you do. enjoy.

Oooh, you have my sympathy!

I detest trying out horses.

It's different at shows where everybody is in the same situation, but it is definitely more nerve wracking to ride somebody elses horse, when you know that your every move is being scrutinised by the owner.

Hey at least you didn't got to try a horse and fall off and break your nose and finger and bleed all over the owners cream trousers - now that was bad riding and embarassing!

I can't ride in front of people, and it takes me so long to get used to a different horse, its like learning to ride all over again! I've hardly ridden for 6 weeks due to Flash's lameness, and when I got on a friends horse to school her I felt like such a muppet and just wanted to climb straight off!
