The dog had a little lump on her face about a month ago, very close to her eye and it had got a bit bigger so I popped her down to the vets this morning (bearing in mind I had poked at it a bit and it seemed to be under her hair). Started explaining to the vet about the lump and he went 'what, this?' And then held up the scab he'd just picked off the dog's face. Mortified! I took my dog to the vets..... For a scab. Very kindly he didn't charge me but I would have been more than willing to pay to make up for my stupidity! Left the surgery very red faced :o

That is not called being a numpty owner, it is called: Taking your dog to the veterinarian for a positive experience.

Which in fact is excellent training for them, teaching them that they can go there without bad things happening to them. You simply took it a step further than what such visits usually entails, which is to just sit in the waiting room for a while, perhaps check their weight, look around a little on stuff they have for sale, buy e.g. a new bottle with ear cleaner etc.

Ahem! I have found I make this kind of mistake when I forget to put my reading glasses on. I even need them to trim the dogs' claws nowadays! Don't worry too much, your dog is ok which is the most important thing after all.

Thanks guys, I feel slightly less sheepish now! And good point made by FinnishLapphund, she was absolutely petrified going into the surgery because she associates it with pain from when she was spayed. So she got a little treat and a fuss and hopefully will be better next time :)
