I PASSED!!

To ROG: In total I spent approx £600, each 3hr lesson was £80 (and I had 5, although could have probably managed with 4, but I didn't want to have one less incase I failed and blamed myself) and the test was aroudn £200. I took my time over it though, and had about 1 and 1/2 months where I spread the lessons. Well worth the money though, got it for life! :)

To Blondie1:
Each examiner may be different but ... I was only allowed out of the car once on my reverse to check how far back I could go. My instructors thought you were allowed twice. I was about to get out a second time, said this to the examiner who said if I did he would assess the trailer on where it was!! I went back a few more inches and thank-goodness I did!!! LOL.
I was really nervous, when I re-attatched the trailer I lifted it (using the jockey wheel) to check it was attatched and it wasn't - whoops! But I just said 'that's why you check it' which the examiner seemed to think was funny!! Whoops. Still. Then got it attatched and was all ok.
I did get 2 minors. 1 for hesitation on a roundabout (was correct for horse trailer towing, but not for towing in general - I should have gone basically!) and one for indicating without looking in my mirrors.
Make sure you look like a nodding dog with all the mirror checks you do!! LOL. Make them obvious. Before any change in speed (slower or faster) and any maneover (can't spell that!)
Also. He asked me to pull up in a safe place on the side of the road numerous times, which wasn't something I was expecting or practiced.

Try to stay calm. On the reverse take your time!!. Stop and think about it, don't go fast.

Thanks so much for the info. Thats a great help. I can remember many years ago with my car driving test that you had to make it obvious that you were looking in your mirrors!

I have just received the info pack through regarding the test. I was surprised to see that when hitching on they dont expect you to position the tow bar exactly under the hitch - from what i read you get as close as possible to fit the break away cable and then move the trailer to the tow bar. Have i read this right?

Also are they really hot on the hand position on the steering wheel? I've been driving for 12 years now and picked up all sorts of bad habits!!! Opps!

Sorry for all the questions - just really want to be prepared!

You are correct on the couple up - break away cable distance

Pull push is preferred as it is the safest method but as long as control is maintained then no marks will be incurred

mirrors - make them obvious

15 hours training and a total of £600 - not bad

I asked as others on here have asked that question recently without getting a reply

Are you ok with the laws on towing with a B+E licence now that you have one?

will you be towing commercially or just privately?

Well done!!!

Although £600 is very steep and I thought test was £115 (on DVLA website) Thats how much I paid and £200 on 5 hrs of lessons.

I'm about to rant but how many of you think this is another horse-tax?? I mean, what a rip-off and £600 for lessons!!! Those of you who have "grandad rights" you lucky things!!!!

Rip-off Britain at its finest.

I suppose it depends on certain factors -
Choice of BE trainers = competition
Ability of the trainee
