I've put my mare up for sale as we really didn't click & I feel like she's being wasted as I can't do her justice and gie her all the time/experiance she needs. I was advertising a horse for a friend and all I got was timewasters & now I havn't had a single phone call or email for my girl. I really don't know what to do as I want her to find a new home ASAP. Maybe her AD isn't right or she's too much/too little or people just arn't out there, can anyone help ?!

Maybe once you've advertised with HHO tomorrow you could post the ad then. not sure if you would get in trouble from TFC if you did it tonight though.

Im sure theres someone else on here who could help you more than me :)
 
I agree that it's a very tricky time of year. I have been looking for a horse for the last 6 months, on and off, and have decided not to bother now until after Christmas for various reasons (although going to see one more tomorrow just in case it's THE ONE!).

It's partly that the evenings are dark and cold, daughter wouldn't get much chance to ride, the weather is miserable and not conducive to riding in the day either, my field is getting cut up as it is, so another horse out there would create merry hell, I don't want to muck out any more, I haven't got time/money to go out buying new rugs and tack for a new horse, and also I have currently lost my enthusiasm for horses in general :( A new horse on the yard creates a lot of stress, and I don't need any more over the xmas period.

However come January all that will be forgotten and I will be motivated again! :)
I would have thought a link to an add with H&H would be considerably more acceptable than one to a rival ad site, so maybe put a link up when your ad goes on and see if people think she is priced too high or whatever.
 
I think your ad is a tad upfront and honest TBH

I would accentuate her good points and let the other bits come out when you talk to people - the ad is a little offputting and makes her seem expensive too
 
spacefaer- im with you its too upfront, you have put lots more bad points than good, but good luck im sure there will be a buyer when you least expect it :D

Agree. I am not surprised you have not had any calls. Talk about her good points and state something about 'no novices'. When some-one rings you can give them a little more detail. This advert is not 'selling' her, just telling everyone her bad points.
Sorry for being so blunt but advertising is not cheap and I think you are wasting your money with this advert.

echo this. Im horse hunting as well but am going to leave it now till after xmas altho Ive not lost my enthusiasm, there just arent a lot of horses out there at the moment.
 
TBH I'd change the photos too - as well as flat and jumping, get a nice conformation shot without tack, so stood up nicely, pic from the side. The head shots you've used may be nice pics, but don't give potential viewers any idea as to her.

She seems lovely - good luckx
 
I haven't read the ad but I would say, at this time of year the market's very limted as not many people are looking to buy at this time of year. The best time to sell really is beginning of spring/summer really. You may be lucky but to be honest, at this time of year I wouldn't expect much interest. Sorry.
 
I really don't want to sound harsh but your horse seems to be under schooled and overpriced. I don't blame you for being honest at all, but you are giving too much information! You need to turn the negatives into a positive ie she is a lively keen ride as opposed to strong and unruly! Emphasise the fact she is young, and needs further work to improve her. I take it you paid quite a lot for her. I don't know what prices are like further south but for that type, age and schooling of horse, she is overpriced in the market up here. Perhaps if you can, you need to concentrate on getting the most suitable home for her. Wishing you the best of luck - selling horses is hideous!x
 
Why do you say she needs "very firm handling?". You describe a nice riding horse (many get a bit excited cantering in company) and then say she will only go to a very experienced home that can handle "a challenge". Is she a handful on the ground?
I would also try her on Project Horses if you think she needs a bit of work. People scoff at that site sometimes, but for a very small price you can run an honest and detailed ad - but do emphasise her good points and don't under-sell her! The site isn't just for cheap last-chance equines.

Yep - going for this comment - you need to be more positive than negative on comments - leave the "not novice ride" until last in your ad.
 
Sorry, pictures are dreadful and just wouldn't catch my eye, coupled with that price it's a no no for me.

Make the effort and get some really good pictures of her working on the flat and jumping and a nice head shot which is not too dark as well as a side on conformation shot of her stood up properly and you might have more luck.

Try an ad on PC website as well if she's been a good girl at camp and you can get people to back that up.
 
ad confuses me as in one breath it says she was so good at PC camp but then you say needs very firm handling and will only go to very experienced home

What you could say is that she was very good at camp. However because of her age would suit more experienced rider as needs bringing on

I agree too she is over priced by about £1000 to £1200 sorry.

She looks sweet but she is nothing special and needs experienced person so this really lowers the value
 
Thank you again, will take some new pictures and change all the negatives into more positive things - I just wanted to be completly honest as I want to find her the perfect home.

She is a good girl too ride (except she can get a little excited with others) its the groundwork which needs working on just because she is very strong willed and I'm not strong/confident enough to teach her.

Have spoken to my YO about the price, she says she thinks its about right for our area & I am open to offers, I thought if I put her up for less people would think there is a major problem and be equally put off. Blerghh I hate selling horses, however on the positive note I did just get a call about her :)
