I really dont want to be a bitch but.......

I wouldn't be giving any riding lessons until they grasped simple stable management facts. I think they may be taking you for a ride with the free lessons thing. I know you want to keep the peace but i certainly would not be giving riding lessons to anyone who said i was cruel to my ponies, i would probably get a vet involved so that you know you are doing the right thing and tell them fine go ahead report you. You have the vet to back you up.

Personally i would not have shown them the worst pics but built up to it as yes that does suggest scaremongering. I would ask them if they would let a child with diabetes a whole packet of polos and say that it is exactly the same thing, they cannot control the sugar (i know its not strictly true but its the best example i have).

Out of interest i wonder what these people themselves weigh and if they diet, my general understanding of clueless people is that those who struggle with weight themselves do understand and it is easier to explain, however those that do not struggle with their weight or diet find it harder to understand. If you have ever worked in a vets you will probably know what i mean, yo get extremely fat dogs and the owners that don't understand are generally owners on the large side who feed the dog everything they eat.

If I say tactfully they are all on the larger size.......Riding lessons are stopping....Its almost arrogance on their part to be honest..They make comments all the time about how my lovely and very caring farming landlady cares for her sheep and cattle and has on numerous occasions told me that its cruel to crate train my puppy...who is in the crate with the door open along side me as I worlk....very awful life she has too !! I should be horse whipped for animal cruelty !!!
 
They sound like a real nightmare. I agree with stopping the lessons. I would also be tempted to ask someone like the BHS to speak to them, suggest they are causing a welfare issue maybe? Scare tactics but it could well keep them away and shut them up.
 
Crap for you OP.
There the same type of people who arrive weeping and wailing when as a welfare officer you are supporting an owner through a PTS.
 
I'd have gone ballistic m'duck. I would have fed their children every bit of sugary rubbish I could find. And if they have dogs I'd have turned up with armfuls of food.

Tell them that if they don't bog off and leave your horse alone, you will call the RSPCA and the Police, and you will plaster it all over the community that they are trying to kill your horses.

A bit extreme maybe, but they sound as thick as pig wotsit and need shock tactics.

I found this video and thought of you. It`s an "official" WHW video (with an RSPCA inspector) with some graphic scenes, but highlighting the damage obese/lami can do, resulting in death, and in this case a prosecution of the owner ....... Don`t know if it may help your cause:
