I really like Tim Stockdale but

My OH supports me and my horses. Its just whatever works best for people. However Im completely obsessed by my horses, they are on DIY, I get up at 6.45 leaving OH snoring in bed to look after and ride them. I love riding and competing my horses and do not overhorse myself.

I could see how you could class Tims comment as chavenistic as it is a generalisation thats not really true anymore.
However I get people sneering at me when they realise I dont work. They think im a lazy, money grabber. Actually im just a scruffy horsie girl who appreciates every waking moment how lucky I am.

One day my OH might want to move to America and he'll know that despite the fact I love my home, i'll be going with him. He does everything he can to make me happy and when its my turn to repay the favour i'll be there.

He's man who likes to voice his opinions....fair enough, I don't agree with him

''hating women that have horses as status symbols and don't ride them and how he feels sorry for their husband paying the bills for these horses that aren't ridden''

So what if someone's husband is either daft enough to pay for it or quite simply wants to pay for it because he loves his wife and can afford to. My OH said if he had a better paid job or won the lottery he'd buy me what ever I wanted when it came to horse stuff....what is wrong with that? if Tim Stockdale doesn't like ....doesn't bother me though, he says what he thinks and I admire that....amusing/daft as they may be but I think we need characters like that...keeps things interesting lol.

However there is worse things that happen in yards, now if he said something like I hate hearing about the bitchyness on yards that women create, then I'd have to say yes fair point, because that is a topic that causes a lot of people upset and having to move yards because of it....now that comment would be worth its salt as for rich hubby's paying for their wives horses and hobbies, where is the harm in that if the horses are well cared for?

well, for the past 3 years, my husband has kept me and my horses and lifestyle. Prior to that, i had a successful career of my own. He was offered an opportunity to work abroad on really good money. i worked for about a year after that but having horses, son, house and very demanding job proved difficult as i also had to travel abroad etc on business. we made the decision for me to put my career on hold. I spent the morning at the yard with dog, mucking out and riding etc. then home for son coming from school. It has been a brilliant few years, but now illness has taken over and things will all have to change. I am so glad that i have had a nice couple of years looking after my animals and family and not having the stress of work. Different things work for different people and others should be too judgemental. i don't see why people would have a problem anyway with this or whatever car people turn up at the yard in.

I agree with him - have seen it plenty of times and its very irritating when you work hard to afford your horse and can't afford to compete/train as much as you would like - I don't disagree with having a wealthy OH to finance it all (position vacant
wink.gif
) but why not make the most of it and train with fantastic pro's who can help you get the most from your ££££ neddy rather than just prancing round the yard in your latest Pikeur breeches which incidentally will never wear out because they never come into contact with any leather other than that which adorns the seats of your sparkly new Merc!

p.s know any single rich men with a vulnerable nature and low standards??

Hmm I like your thinking but I couldn't, not even for long enough to extract a new Oakley and a couple of Devecoux's - maybe I'm just not cut out for Gold digging - too damn fussy!

well, the horse doesn't know that it's a superstar - it doesn't suffer and if they can afford proper care for it - why not?

I quite agree.

I know Tim a bit, and can assure you that in no way is he a snob. He's a pragmatist and a VERY hard worker. He said of the girl he taught in the TV programme "Faking It" (which I didn't see) that he was annoyed that on leaving, she said thank you to him and Laura and the staff, but not to what he thought the most important i.e. the horse she had been riding.

[/ QUOTE ]

Im sure the horse never got over it.

LMAO

We had a few women like this on my old yard, although they did ride their horses. Apart from it obviously being unfair that my OH doesn't do the same for me, I can't see the problem as long as the horse is well cared for.

I actually read this article and was howling with laughter, becuase most of it is just so damn true!!

I am a freelance rider and groom and know so many people like this-the man's accuracy was scary!

I will admit, the comment made about the husbands paying for the horses was perhaps a little outdated and possibly unfair, but thats not what the article was about at all. This was only one part of it, and he was using it to back up his original point, about people who have absolutely no intenion of getting on their horses becazue they are too frightened to do so, so they pay others to ease their guilt.

Like I said, I couldnt agree more!

(Goes to put on tin hat!)

i don't see the point in the article at all to be honest, i didn't find it amusing, informative, interesting or useful... And i never do with his.

The Olympic ones were ok but now i see it is back to moaning about other people who really don't have anything to do with him. Would have thought someone like him would have more interesting things to write about. I'm sure i'm not the only one who would rather read about how his horses and training and competing are going.

Who cares if they're wasting their money on something they're too frightened to ride as long as the horse isn't suffering. And i dont think that behavioural problems occur because a horse is not ridden. I think it is usually down to being stabled too much. It may happen, but not very often.

Oh, and the fact they have to get someone else to ride it??? Isn't that giving someone a job, and i'm sure people who are freelance riders do it because they enjoy it. Might be tough times for them without these snobby rich ladies who need people to come and ride their posh horses and get paid for it too. I'd kill to even do it for free...

Completely disagree here Im afraid!

And as for the comment about freelance riders, personally I find these owners so annoying and for me its very disheartening! Because you put work into a horse knowing that the work is wasted! Excuse the pun, but it feels like you are flogging a dead horse!!
Those that pay people to ride their horse during the week so they can compete or ride at weekends dont bother me, because you are then riding the horse for a purpose.

I also find that with these people they expect you to completely improve the horse overnight - but it cant be done by me riding it once a week! I am a freelance rider becasue I enjoy it to a certain extent, and I guess I perhaps should be grateful, but like I say it is very disheartening. Im now working on a breaking and pre-training yard which is very rewarding becasue you can actually see some improvemnt in the horses, and when they leave ypu know their careers will be furthered!

No it irritates the life out of me too - and I am a woman!

I just hate seeing nice horses go to waste on livery yards where the owners sit round drinking coffee talking about what they are going to do instead of actually getting on and doing it!

Houndgirl, are you on my yard...?!!

At the end of the day I have horses who could probably compete but don't. Are they worried about it? No. Am I? No. They are happy being horses!

I pay for them all myself and they are in the best health they could possibly be in. Whether I chose to ride them or not is up to me. Couldn't care less what Tim Stockdale or anyone else has to say quite honestly, as long as the horses are happy, healthy and sound.

Let and let live I say.

So long as the women and their husbands are happy, and the horses are well looked after then there is no problem and it's no one else's business surely?

Seems an odd thing to worry about?

We have quite a few like this on our yard - not really surprising I guess as there are lots of rich bankers and diplomats in Switzerland. It does not worry me in the slightest. anyway, I never meet them as they ride in the daytime and I ride in the evening after work, when the kids are in bed.

On a yard I was on many years ago, there was a lady like this. She was actually lovely and did ride regularly although her horse was a bit much for her. She had a lovely sports car and all the latest gear. She always looked immaculate. Unfortunately for her OH, she was having an affair with the (admittedly rather attractive) riding instructor
