Ok, I would REALLY appreciate your help, I'm aware this is perhaps quite a fickle post!

I have broken both of my feet/destroyed ligaments on so many occasions I've lose count. Because of this, my left ankle in particular is very weak, has little strength to kick etc and the biggest problem is that if it's not supported into something, and I'm on uneven ground, it turns over almost instantly and puts me back on crutches for a few days.

Previously, as in 2 years ago, I used to ride in cheap jod boots and cheap chaps.

Then I changed to the Dublin Pinnacle (I think-with the cross-cross down them) boots and my position literally changed overnight. Heels down, leg in the right place, Bobs your uncle. Turns out they're not really suitable for riding as they fell apart pretty damn quick :S

So, since then I haven't really ridden, and when I have I've ridden in the Ariat Mudbuster wellies which are fine for the plodding around I've been doing but not good for any feeling to the horse-far too clumpy. So. What do I buy now, as I'm starting to back the Puz?

Tried Ariat boots and chaps on-boots fine, chaps too high. Cheaper chaps were right size but didn't match the boot.

Tried Dubarry riding boots on, too tight round the calf and baggy round the ankle.

I dont care if they're short or long boots, they just have to be suitable for riding, supportive in my ankle, and BROWN! Anybody able to help?! What do you wear when it's not cheap joddy boots, or Ariats?!

I SWEAR by mountain horse high rider and you can get them in brown/wide.short/regular blah blah blah. Have had a pair nine years and I still ride in them. They drop beautifully, support my shi*ty ankle and you can wear them all day.

Not expensive either. Do it!

:)

What about wearing some sort of ankle support. Or use a supportive sports strapping a good physio would be able to show you how to strap your ankle to support while you ride . X

Ditto these and yes they do them in brown I don't do black!!:p

Can't believe you have had a pair that lasted nine years! Mine are lucky to last two years before needing to get the zip replaced but then again I was wearing them a lot!

OP - if you get these boots I would strongly suggest that you buy the inflatable boot trees to stop them folding/creasing at the ankle

Ah, see I certainly haven't been wearing them everyday - maybe equivalent to three full days a week. The loop to secure them at the top of the zip is just threatening to break but everything else is good!

I love my Ariats! They are the sort that lace up to above your ankle bone so you can have them as loose or tight as you wish. If you can't find leather half chaps short enough, a good saddler should be able to alter them.

Have a look at HKM Madrid. I have a pair, bought for Christmas and they're used every day, apart from being dirty they're still as good as new. They have the crisscross you want down the side and they're definitely brown. They're also £70 on Ebay.

Ariats all the way....got the long ones with laces, worth every penny IMO.

Tried Mountain horse, they fell apart on me quite quickly, Ariats have lasted ages.

I also have foot and knee issues, these have helped me

I'm an Ariat fan. I think the Ariat Bromont will give you the most support, I've broken one of my ankle a couple of times so need to feel some support. They felt a little tight round ankles to start with but they are very comfy now I've worn them a few times. They are available in brown :)
