My horse has developed sores in the corners of his lips/mouth . The bit fits fine but my instructor said it could be that it's too wide so is causing his lips to stretch in the corners and become sore.
The bit is a fulmer with cheeks . Can anyone reccomend a finer bit ? I only use it for jumping.
Daily I ride in a plain snaffle loose ring myler which seems fine.

I seem to remember that you are using a proper fulmer which has loose rings and a full cheek, not a full cheek, so you should use keepers with it, which would keep it more stable in his mouth and are required for it to have the correct action, so that would be the first thing to try.
If that does not help maybe a fixed cheek snaffle would be the next one to try.

Yes fulmer with loose rings for jumping but for hacking etc just a plain loose ring myler . That is a good point it just seems pretty wide on his cheeks compared to the myler

A fulmer has the slightly thinner bent shanks at the top - they MUST be used with keepers, or the bit will be placed in the mouth wrongly. Loose rings in themselves can rub without rubber biscuits.

Could you not try jumping using the myler ?

You are not using it correctly, it must have keepers and your instructor should know this, put keepers on and it should be fine.

Ok shall do . My other horse has keepers on his but funnily enough this caused it to rub, bit was correct size etc .
Can't really jump in myler as I find the fulmer much easier steering wise as he's still young .
Will get some keepers :D
