Really scary for you I am so glad she is ok. I too would have no idea what I would do if I lost my boy.
I have everything crossed that she makes a speedy recovery and you haven't clocked up any speeding tickets.
Terrifying for you. Fingers crossed for a speedy healing for her and lots of healing vibes from me.
I got to my yard this morning and found my lad with a 8" deepish graze on his inside near hind just above the hock, nothing like your injury but bad enough, and my head is now trying to block awful thoughts of what if it'd been a couple of inches lower, a bit more to the left, a bit harder etc. etc.
He was brilliant about having it washed off and treated.
Like you say, you wish you could wrap them in cotton wool, but you can't.
Ellie is better than we had hoped this morning. I walked her out in hand, and she was so full of herself and energetic I ended up having to wrap the lead rope round her nose
She is barely lame at all and certainly not stiff - such an improvement from last night! The wounds themselves look nice and clean; the vet's bandage had slipped so we had to change it this morning, but her chestnut hole (there is literally nothing left) is clean and dry, and the gashes on her hock and pastern are not too weepy. We spoke to the vet again this morning and she has advised that the bandage should stay on for at least a week, although she should be walked out carefully and, come Monday or Tuesday, turned out in a small paddock on her own. She's on some antibiotics for a few days, and although she seemed happy enough we gave her a Danilon this morning just to help with the swelling and the pain. This Danilon stuff is new to us - the last time we had a poorly horse, all you could get was bute
YO asked us yesterday how Ellie is with pain, and the answer was, we dont know! Nine years we've had her, and this is the first real time she has been injured. I guess you could say we were due a vet visit!
The bad news is, I think it is looking likely that we will have to move yards. I need to speak to the YO tonight, but I just know that individual turnout isnt an option - two other liveries would like it, but the YO simply doesnt allow it - the mares are out together, and the geldings likewise. In the winter they tend to be split into two groups of three, but then next summer we will have the same problem again, so I need to be thinking of what to do next. So now begins the horrible process of yard hunting, I guess!
I'm so gutted, I love our yard so much in every way other than the turnout issue (it was the one compromise we made when we moved there, as out of choice I wouldnt want big group turnout).
Individual turnout was one of the reasons I moved yards - in the previous yard my coblet was in with a psycho mare who wouldn't let me get her in or out - at my yard now everyone has their own turnout - so no arguements about poo picking, who ate whose rug etc etc They all have friends over the fence to groom and the fields have about 8 horses in so plenty of horses to hoon around with but no damage!! Good luck with your search.
That's all looking good, what a relief. My horse got a kicking some years ago and it wasn't so good, he got a joint infection
I'm on a yard that does group turnout, it was a nightmare on the 2 occasions I needed a rehabilitation field. The first time I had to move the horse, by the second time, I managed to get a bit of field taped off and a Shettie for company.
Hope your horse only has superficial injuries and is soon back to normal. Agree that the other horse should have back shoes removed if it hasn't already.

That kind of thing sounds absolutely perfect - somewhere they can see other horses, but not be close enough to cause damage
But how do you find somewhere like that? Many places I've enquired at only offer part or full livery, which is no good for us. Either that, or they have no hacking
