Some of you will remember that I've been having a LOT of issue with confidence. Aside from my tuesday walk out on an old and steady horse, I've not been doing any "proper" riding. I haven't ridden Ned because he's still not right (field sound though), but I finally have someone coming out to look at him so I can get to the bottom of it all. So fingers crossed for that.
I needed to bring YO/my managers (I'll call her P) horse QC down from the field to be wormed. P groomed him and commented that she really should ride him, but was too busy. I had a lot to do too, but I managed to get everything done with about an hour to spare, so I gave P a text and asked if she wouldn't mind me riding him. She said "of course!" so I tacked up and took him to the school.
I should mention QC hasn't been ridden properly for nearly a year, so needed to take things steady. P mentioned that he can be spooky by where the jumps are kept, so I did my Ned trick and lead him past first. He barely even looked!
I've seen an old pictures of him looking incredibly fancy, doing a lovely trot! I had simply no idea how well schooled this horse is! In total we trotted a circle (half circle each way) but it was so fun finding all his buttons in walk! I asked for leg yield and a few other things, but it was clear he knew much more than I knew how to ask for. I'm so impressed he still knows these things, with such subtle commands.
P has said I can ride him whenever I want, so I'm hoping to get him fit and maybe try some higher level dressage (meaning higher level than Ned can do...which is Intro lol!)
I'm hoping Ned can be sorted so I can have a jumping/hacking horse and a dressage horse!
Anyway, it felt so good to be on a lovely horse than I felt safe on
Isn't he handsome!? Here's to riding more and helping us both get fit!
