i rode her today...

Like do i need to check before the vet comes like sunday night like trot her up? cause i dont want the vet to come and its gone :o
i know this is a bit silly but if i dont give bute over the weekend how do i know shes not in pain,
thanks :)

Bute will only mask the pain and the vet will not be able to assess her properly. Leave her without and just give her turn out. She might be in a bit of pain, but it is better the vet can see that and treat accordingly.

I wouldn't do any trotting up, just leave her until the vet comes.

This.

Although of course, if you ring the practice now - you may be able to get an appointment for later today ;)

Her feet are due, and the farrier wont pick up the phone!!
but this lady was experianced and she said she didt look lame, just tight and tense in her shoulider x

People often seem to think there is something wrong with a horse's shoulder when in actual fact the shoulder has absolutely nothing to do with it. You really, honestly, need to get the vet.

Get the vet. Its obvious the mare is uncomfortable.
Please follow the advice given here.
No one here will be able to give you a definate answer.

well to be honest iv given everyoneon here what i can and they still dont have a clue what it could be so i dont know what pain ect what shes in so the only way foward is the vet x

Forthe simple reason that none of us are vets, so why should we know what is wrong with your horse? You have been advised to get the vet out, thats what they are for, so just leave it at that. It doesn't matter how much pain Ebs is in, leave her off the Bute so the vet has a plain job to work on and get the vet TODAY, so your poor horse can be sorted once and for all!!

Its pretty difficult to diagnose a horse from a written description of a suspected lameness, I think even a vet would struggle with that.

Just call them - most will be able to fit you in today, I'm pretty sure mine would come out :)

i know they cant give me a definate answer but no one seems to have much clue either

I think a few people might have a suspicion of what the problem is - but would rather you got the vet for a proper diagnosis.

As earlier - let us know how you get on.

Horses which appear stiff through the shoulders are very often shortening their stride due to bilateral foot pain. Also recurrent back problems are usually a secondary symptom of front feet and hock problems.

OP, the first thing I would do is get yourself a reliable. highly regarded farrier to get your mare's feet sorted out if she is overdue and avoid her going overdue again.

Couldn't agree more with both of theses posts!

Bertie was extremely lame (footsore) in front after he was shod (vet/farrier couldn't find anything untoward) and this had a direct impact on his shoulders. He was so tight and sore he looked as if he had run across country on concrete!! Physio corrected problem in one treatment!

I'd be worried with your horse as she is on bute and still not "right" and if she has started biting then she's trying to tell you something. None of us (to the best of my knowledge), you and neither the lady who watched you ride the horse are vets or qualified to diagnose her so no question about it - get the vet and get her sorted :)

Let us know what they find!

If in doubt, get the vet. You've tried to work it out, you can't therefore vet and do what he advises.
I struggle to see how she can be "tight and tense" in the shoulder yet isn't lame??
