yay!

this afternoon i got back 'in the saddle'. i stopped riding at about 26 weeks pregnant, and my little baby is now 7 weeks old... so Raff has not been ridden for about 5 months.

as i'm a total chicken (lost my confidence a few years ago) the lovely Kerilli got on him first. he was angelic - even with her mares in the next field, all giving him the eye (ok, ok, so it was him giving them the eye...)

then i got on... it's as if a little switch goes in his head. it's like "uh oh, mum's on board" and he turns into mr safe, reliable plod.

he genuinely didn't put a foot wrong. we only walked a few circles... but it was enough to remind me why we bought him. he really is a little confidence giver. he might not set the showing world on fire, he might not win Dressage Horse of the Year... but he's worth his weight in gold, i swear to god.

and now i'm actually crying. what a wuss i am.

am literally GLOWING with pride and happiness. only a few months ago i swore i'd never get on a horse again...

he had so many chances to get freaked out today... i had a call to say i was being picked up (with raff) in ten mins, so i literally grabbed him in the field, threw a bridle on him, dragged him out of the field, into a strange horsebox, out into a new yard with GIRL horses to flirt with, threw a strange saddle on him, took him into a strange school, etc etc... and yet he didn't get phased at all.

p.s by 'strange' i mean one he didn't know... it sounds like i'm calling kerilli's lorry, yard, saddle and manege 'strange'...

haha, it's all very very strange here!
so pleased for you hun, especially pleased that i didn't actually have to bully you to get on, that my gentle suggestion to bring your hat worked, and that he was such an angel! 10/10. xx

oh bless him...well my great numpty horse flipped his lid because of a long waterproof coat and dumped his rider in the wettet part of the arena last week. so Raff in my books is a very very brave boy

i must come and meet him and you have to come meet mine soon....we said that ages ago!

to be fair to Ted... long waterproof coats freak me out a bit too...

PMSL is that because scary stalker men stereotypically wear this kind of coat??

well done you and Raff, especially going to a new place etc to do it! Bet it felt amazing and how nice of kerilli to help you
