ALONE!!
I was feeling brave last night, so I thought "I'm just going to do it. For death or glory!"
So, I got to the yard, got all his stuff ready and went to get him out of the field. He must have known I was on a mission, because the little blighter walked away from me!! He's never ever done that before!! He stopped after a few paces and looked at me almost saying "Sorry, it won't happen again" I caught him and walked him into the yard, (past the first 'sticking gate') tacked him up and then got ready myself.
Well, he did it! Not one rear, he didn't stop or throw a strop - he just came right out the gate.
I had him on a lunge at this point, but I unclipped that and chucked it on the drive and lead him by the reins.
I got 100 yards down the road then realised I'd forgotten my whip!!! God dammit!!
I turned him around and we went back to get it.
Again, no stopping in the yard, he went in and out no problem!
He walked by my shoulder, didn't get strong or silly. He was great!
We wandered down the road when suddenly he stopped, grew about a foot and snorted...what on Earth is hell is wrong with him?!
Then I see it. A trailer with bales of hay wrapped in plastic. Had he seen the whole thing, I don't think he would have spooked, but this was just peeping out from behind the hedge. He completely freaked out and I couldn't get him forwards.
We stood and looked it for a while, he was sweating, shaking and genuinely terrified.
He eventually started taking baby steps towards it, wobbling towards it. When he got level with it, he practically jumped in the bush!! But we were past, he had done it!!
A little further down the road, there's a nice raised bit of grass, so I pulled him up and hopped on!
We were off!!
He was extremely well behaved, he was a little stronger than when we go out with the group, but I was expecting that and it wasn't so strong that it was an effort to hold him. He only had one little spook, I can't even remember what it was at. He didn't go sidewards or anything, just stopped, then went again.
The rest of the ride was uneventful, surprisingly! We saw some traffic, he was fab! Saw some bikes, also fab.
I'm just so proud of him!!! I gave him some carrots and a big cuddle when we got back
Ooh I could just jump around with joy!!
