No real reason to this post other than to say - I rode the Friesian today! :D

The guy is trying to sell it so I asked if i could have a ride.

Wow Friesians are comfy. lol :D:D

Really enjoyed it despite the Friesian being the worlds nappiest horse

With some work he could be stunning!

Ive just finished backing and riding away a Friesian and I found her very uncomfortable at trot and awful at canter. I really don't like having ears in my mouth and forelocks flying in my eyes, it takes the fun out of things;D As you may have guessed, they're not my cup of tea! :)

lol!
Yes his canter and trot were very unbalanced but when i am used to skinny Chico sitting on the Friesian was like sitting in an arm chair!!

He was willing to go down onto the contact so luckily i didnt have his ears up my nose, and sadly he has a short straggly mane :(

Was very very very nappy though, think he has just bet left to get away with it and it shows

The canter comes with time, they are such slow maturing horses and are very unbalanced as babies, especially in canter.

I love riding my friesian, I call her my big rocking horse! She has the most comfortable paces, it really is like being in a big armchair lol! Now that she is much more balanced, her canter is lovely too, really comfy and easy to sit. The trot took some getting use to, I felt like I was being flung out of the saddle each stride at first, but now I find my other horses trot really boring compared to the friesian :D I did a lot of work this summer on getting her to collect herself up and be more balanced, and also to work a bit lower and more relaxed as i dont like the feeling of having ears in my face either! She took to it really well and has a lovely head carriage now and only ever sticks her ears in my face when she's doing the "big friesian walk" near something scary :D

 @ Ears in mouth!

Thankfully all ours are now longer & lower than when first broken. I remember them days well...

As for their trot/canter... I find them so comfortable, saying that ive round nothing other than friesians for the last 4 years. (Infact I lie, Ive ridden a welsh D, which in fairness still have the high knee action!)

I think so many struggle with being balanced because people dont ask them to work properly. They need to use their hinds as their engine, but naturally use their fronts... Think this is why so many suffer with canter too.
