.... but it WAS on the instructions from my vet! ;) Boyo had just been castrated, lying down and was trying to stand before he was physically able to so three of us had to restrain him for a few minutes until the ketamine had worn off a little more! To be honest, I was shocked at just how strong the little fella is AND also just how strong the instinct is to stand, even if they are not "with it".

He's absolutely fine now, out in his little pen munching hay contentedly.... phew!!!
 
Hee hee! Naughty OP starting off with a shocking line like that, don't you know what happens on HHO?! ;):D
Glad his op went well and that he's feeling fine :D
 
Lol.... what is even sadder is that WHILST I was perched on him I said to the vet "I can't believe I'm SITTING on my baby horse!" and that's when I actually thought "I am SO putting that on HHO later!" :D

Why did the vet put him on the floor, it is quite unusual, everything I have had done right back to the 80's was done standing.
 
He's only 12hh high at the moment and as he is deep girthed and hairy, my lovely vet decided she'd rather have him down - and I agree with her decision wholeheartedly. My previous colts have been done standing but I felt that she was far more thorough - plus I held a lead-light for her and had a ringside seat for the whole procedure which I found absolutely absorbing and fascinating!!! :D

Safer for the vet in that situation. Little Ted was wild but fainted when he saw the needle so we just propped him against the wall and did him standing !

I did a little update on Tuesday. Ted has graduated into a dually halter and has gone into hiding because I chopped his mane off with the kitchen scissors. It's on 'My next equine project'.
 
Aww I watched a standing one the other week, my friend knew I would want to watch haha, I found it fascinating too! Poor chap did move around more than I expected, although he was sedated and the area anaesthetised I could just imagine that tugging sensation with the vet hanging on....*shudders*. My OH didn't fancy coming, funny that!

Your little chap is cute!

I'm very disappointed by the lack of pictures in this thread Domane.... I wanted to compare this one's 'baby birds in a bucket' with the last one you had done....!!!!

Glad he's through it and not holding any grudges! ;)
