I went to a friends house today to see a baby mini that was born. Will put pics up of him later as he was the tiniest thing I have ever seen. We were going to give her our opinion on his crooked legs . We determined he must need little splints and have advised her to get him to a vet asap and we are going with her in the morning. he is so small he will be riding in the car with us!
Anyhow, I was quite shocked when I observed a staillion that she had sold several months ago who was back at her place for breeding. He had been fat and happy right before he was sold to this new home and I could hardly recognise the horse I saw today. The lady had just got him there and was very concerned for him and the other two she sold this man and asked if I would drive over there with her to check on them.
I almost wish I had not
When we got there it was a dump with garbage everywhere and pit bull dogs tied to big chains all over the yard. We could not even see the horses.
The lady I was with beeped her horn and when they came out and saw who it was you could tell they were very nervous and edgy to let us see the horses. We said we just wondered if we could see the mother and foal she sold them as I was buying one of her babies and was curious as to what the color of the other baby was to compare what the stud throws (lame excuse but it got us back there)
when I went back I felt instanlty sick at what I saw
About 7 minis all caged in tiny, filthy, muddy pens with no shelters. There was also a large paint gelding in some sad state that was in a tiny pen as well. A pen you would not keep a pig in.
They were so emaciated I almost began to cry.
What I noticed first was the mare that the lady had sold her and her baby. I had seen this little mare before and she was fat and happy at her old home. She was hardly recognisible and her baby looked like hell. She was in a tiny pen with another mare and her foal and there was so little room the other mare was biting her ferociously from stress I assume. It was no kind of biting I have ever seen. She seemd crazed.
It was horrible and I had to walk away. I am sure the lady with me that had sold them the minis must have been devastated at the site of them.
I have called animal control and the sherrifs office. The animal control officer will be contacting me this evening I have been told. I am going to urge him to go there right away and demand the horses get help or be taken. I am also going to request that my friend be granted temporary custody of the staillion she has at her house that is now owned by them although not so sure that can be lagally done. I imagine once they catch wind of being turned in they will come and take the staillion immediately . I know they will know that it is us that called. I am not sure I care.
