i was playing at a polo tournament today- report to follow and i was watching one of the chukkas and it had just rained so farily slippy, not dangerously slippy but enough to put studs in. And this cuhkka was going on, not particuarly fast and one of the horses just completley dropped down, and what we thought was dead. It was horrible, the horse must have slipped- couldnt really see as was at the other end of the pitch, but it must have slipped or something, maybe fell unconsicous, we dont know but it fell and landed on the guy riding it. It didnt move for ages, so they rolled it to get the guy out, and it still didnt get up. people were saying why dont they ring the vet and people just answered well its dead they will just bring the tractor to take it away. So the trailer arrives to take the what we thought was a dead horse away, it just wasnt moving. all tack was removed, people were REALLY trying to get it up, but no response. So the trailer arrives and suddenly this horse gets up, it went from not moving, thought to be dead to eagerly (sp?) walking back to its box. It was horrible to watch as everyone really thought it was dead. thankfully the horse was ok, stiff, cut and bruised but still alive, no one actually knows why it went down but watching that really makes you think. I dont think they guy who sells tack there has ever sold so many studs!
