So in the coldest period of weather for ages what am I proposing to do? Go to Gloucestershire for 6 days and sleep in the lorry! The roads are looking like they are going to be safe to travel tomorrow and Summerhouse are intending to run their dressage and BSJA at the moment.

Have bought coats for the dogs and packing every rug Sarnie owns. However on previous experience of a night in this weather the central heating and gas bottles froze so it may be the humans that turn into ice. However holiday is taken competitions are entered and Pammy is booked. Just spare a though for us when it is cold in your central heated house!

Will be attempting our first advanced mediums having done no schooling this week and just looked at the tests and I reckon at least 2 movements that are still slightly beyond us!

Should I ring the asylum now?

Aaaargh!!!

Pack flasks, blankets, hot water bottles and put extra clothes on before bed.... or beg/borrow/steal a sofa somewhere!!
smirk.gif

Very dedicated S_J, am sure the AMs will be fab, provided that you're not shivering too much to stay on a straight line

. Look forward to reports / pics!

Hope you get on well travelling and do not freeze. Cannot imagine how cold my lorry would be, have given up venturing out after October. Enjoy yourself.

Definitely ring the asylum!!! And while you are at it, make a reservstion next door for me: I'm still supposed to be taking T down to East Sussex for Pony Training over the weekend
shocked.gif
Staying with friends on the way on Friday night so I'm hoping they'll let us in the house, but Saturday is definitely the lorry
crazy.gif

TBH I'm praying it's cancelled, but if it's on I'll try to get her there...

Hope you have a great trip, anyway, and that Sarnie is good and learns lots, also that you come away from Summerhouse with loads of ribbons and money
laugh.gif

I'd be trying to find a way to lag and insualte those gas bottles.

Wonder if you could rig up one of those electric heating bands used for home brew round them, they don't heat up much! (OK so theres a tiny risk of explosion

)

SJ, be very careful. There has been a LOT of snow in that area, my friend lives between Cirencester and Cheltenham and says that the roads are lethal. And it is supposed to freeze hard tonight. The road up to Talland will be interesting I would think......

Good luck!
smile.gif

Thanks we are not due at Talland until Monday so hoping it will be better by then. Have local snouts and will not be travelling if dangerous as Sarnie is too precious

Bring some clean horse rugs for yourself! There is honestly nothing more warm than they are, its great!
laugh.gif

You are totally mad, but tbh i thought that was a given for horsey people
tongue.gif

Warming tips - never, ever change your socks. Just add more on!! have you got leggings you can wear under pjs? Thermals are a must to sleep in!!

Beware of condensation though

Argh crikey rather you than me but 10/10 for dedication. I second take hot water bottles, hand warmers, thermals, warm food soup, pot noodle, beans anything warm and sloppy to keep you above freezing.

Can you not keep the gas bottle in the lorry?... I would try to keep them in the horse part, and take some spare straw bales to insulate them with, that might stop them freezing. Maybe you could also borrow a little petrol generator to run heaters?... Failing that leg it to the nearest B&B
smile.gif

Sure you'll have a mega time despite the weather, good luck
smile.gif

Pipe work is outside for the gas bottles so that is no go and as for B&B nice idea but probably blow the already blown budget even further!

You are very mad!!! But I still would if I could!
wink.gif

I'm near Okehampton and the roads are still un driveable here, but the A30 may be okay, but the A30 was very dodgy yesterday just after Launceston. We weren't suppose to get any snow last night so the extra 4 inches was nice!

Good Luck

Good luck, you are indeed mad, but at least you have some form of living and heating - when we went to Chatsworth we were overnight in our lorry, which was our old one. We had no living whatsoever so were in the shell of what should be the living on camp beds and in sleeping bags. No curtains so all the light from the barns shone in, and beagle wouldn't settle so ended up on my head. At least I didn't get a cold head, right?

crikey! rather you than me
tongue.gif
lol! take spare rugs for you, seriously... sleep in a couple of thermatexes
tongue.gif
haha...that will keep you toasty! pack plenty of hot water bottles and make sure you and horse stay nice and toastie!!

crikey though...you are crazy
tongue.gif
but good luck, and i have major respect towards your dedication!

Quite a bit of snow here at the moment 4-5 inches in places, obviously not as much as some areas. If you are coming up the m5 you should be ok as you literally come off the motorway and straight into Summerhouse. I don't envy you staying in the lorry.

Haha i'm sorry but I'm now having mental images of various HHOers wrapped in thermatexes with beagles on their heads!
grin.gif

Good luck for the journey, the nights and your AMs!

Yup definitely mad - but what a brilliant 6 days, I'd love to do it!
grin.gif

The realisation of booking into the EHOA clinic the first weekend in February is just starting to hit home to me - what if the weather's like this.... what if I don't get to ride Poppy much before we go.... what if... what if.... aarrgghh!!!!
shocked.gif

Our feed lorry made it to us from Dorchester this morning usinf A roads and Mway.

10 out of 10 for Dedication to the Cause, you madwoman.
wink.gif
And note that none of us have done our usual "we're so jealous" posts.
smirk.gif

I reckon Sarnie has been doing a snow dance so she doesn't have to do the (afore-mentioned) Advanced Mediums.
tongue.gif

That's what's called dedication. Hope you have a good journey, think the AMs are probably the least of your worries right now! Good luck and all the best for it. Not meant to snow til Saturday now but just be bloomin' cold instead so make sure you take plenty of layers, for once I'm thinking rather you than me!

I just watched the weather and I really doubt Summerhouse will run - the forecast is -8oC on saturday and their outdoor will freeze.

I booked for Dressage at hartpury on sunday, but I think I'll be lucky if its safe to travel

Personally I think your a bit mad to travel! I live in the middle of Tallands and Summerhouse and we are in chaos. There are so many cars abondaned on the side of the road in my town.

There were a lot of accidents about yesterday, my road home was shut as a lorry was across the road... I certainly am not leaving my house today!

No way in the world I would travel to Summerhouse or Talland ATM - my children go to school about 5mins from Talland and cannot go in as roads are lethal and they are only going to get worse as the freeze is going to deepen. Even the A40 is slippy and trecherous - nah, I wouldn't risk it and as CSJ said, I v much doubt SH will run - sorry to be so glum about it all!

You'll be fine getting to Summerhouse. I've just been down the M5 between Bridgwater and Bristol and it is totally clear - the next part of your journey is going to be the issue.

Good Luck
