my poor horse is being neglected !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know the person who bought him is lying to me as ive been told by someone who knows him. He promised me he would have a fab home

Is there anything i can do ???????????????????????

i agree with bonny. offer to buy him back. if he meant that much to you least you can do. we owe it to them to be their voice. if you genuinely believe he is miserable and neglected face up to it and deal with it. you have 2 choices. walk away or walk towards.

Agree with the above, all you can do is offer to buy him back, other than that there is very little you can do. If it is severe neglect you could try one of the welfare organisations? Must be very upsetting though.

Hi

I have offered to buy him back , but he wont budge on this idea even though he never rides him as he is terrified of him ,the horse is a gem and never puts a hoof wrong ,he said when he came to see him that he was going to learn and have lessons and the ladies that were also there at the time said they would also help ,and that he would need for nothing!

Now he is in a dirty stable , with filthy water and he wont turn him out as he does not want him to get covered in mud ! Ive also been told the horse is now weeving .

I know there is probably nothing I can do to help ,but it breaks my heart as the horse is a super gentle lad and i thought he was going to a lovley new home .

I just feel so bad for him now as he was very muched loved with me and curcumstances forced me to sell .

offer to give him lessons? if the new owner is that worried about mud, point him towards snuggy hoods and point out that a stabled unexercised horse WILL do ANY of the following

1. High vets bills - quote azotoria as a start
2. Progressively harder to manage
3. Much harder to ride
4. Suggest he gets a sharer to help costs/money towards lessons/happier horse

Its difficult - you sold him, you know you have no rights. As we sadly know from this board, if the horse is fed and watered, then charities can't help. If the new owner won't take up your offer then you could approach WWH and ask them just to chat to help this guy with advice.

You may have to up your offer, or maybe offer to help... ie muck out, water and show the owner how it is done.
Did you not 'vet' where the horse was going to live? Did you not question the lack of horse knowledge or talk to the potential 'helpers'?
Sadly, t sounds to me, as if you sold your horse very quickly without doing back ground checks, something people who 'love' their horses should do imho.

i think you have 3 choices ....

1. up your offer as said before
2. offer to give him lessons ext and try to encourage him to let him out to graze as this is better for them (and mud comes off)
3. report him to the RSPCA or another organisation.

or there is a forth .... do the first 2 and if they do not work do the third. i really hope you can resolve this. good luck xxx

Poor op - I sympathise so much. A relative of mine bought a horse from a friend after I recommended it. It turned into a disaster and nightmare, and I felt terrible about putting this poor horse into the situation. Friend had to sell due to very sad circumstances and couldn't do anything about it. I offered to have horse and sell, offered to buy for same price and I would have had to have borrowed the money, but all to no avail. Horse is now in a field where she has been for the last 5 years, condemned as unfit, written off by dubious vet, and I am very sad about it. Prior to the change of ownership she was fab, hunted, team chased (if pumped full of oats), shown at county level, taught pony club kids, and was a brilliant happy hacker that you could canter and stop on the buckle end. A complete waste of a lovely mare.
Good luck op, I hope you can sort this out. x

Are you going off purely second hand information or have you seen for your own eyes? It is alright for some to say that they know the whisperer well but half truths can be as misleading as complete lies.

If you know where the horse is stabled, go down there and see for yourself. Speak to the YO, explain your situation. If need be, gain evidence to take with you to a welfare organisation.

Is he on DIY? He sounded very inexperienced. Do you know who the helper was that came with him? Friend, trainer, etc? Try and get in touch with them. Did he give any references when you sold your horse to him? Perhaps contact them if you do.

When you sold your boy did you check out the home? Did he tell you how he was going to go about looking after him when he was obviously lacking experience, knowledge and is a novice?

I hope, for the horses sake, it all gets sorted out and he ends up with someone who will treat him well and look out for his future.

Hi

Thanks for all your in -put ............when this chap came to see my horse he had two other girls with him experienced with thbreds ,they all sounded very convincing that my horse would have the very very best ,the chap rode my horse and did fine on him for a beginner ! I knew though that my horse was very safe ,he had NO VICES whatsoever.

We worked him in the menage and then he rode him back to his paddock ,and said we are all agreed that we want him , and said i can visit when ever I wish to .I havent till this all came about , as I was keeping in touch on facebook and things seemed ok when ever i asked how he was doing ,i always got hes fab as a reply.

After a chat with this girl online it all came to my attention that things were not going to well, and i was also told he was probably ashamed to say anything to me , and he will not take advice from her or me as i have tried this ,he thinks he knows it all , including things such as the water he asked her how much water a horse needs .!

Her reply was as much as he likes to drink , he took Oscar out for a hack ,and he had a little spook at a bus and now he will not ride him , I have asked him time and time again that if things go wrong I will take him back , his reply was hes in good hands .

He is now paying someone on his yard to ride him ...............ive been told it all seems pointless and he should give hi up as its never going to work out , but my horse is now like a trophy to him ,something for him to brag about !

I am not giving up because i feel as guilty as hell for letting him go , i am going to see him very soon , we are not down the road from each other it is quite a drive , but I am going as I do need to know before i drive my self mental.

He is on a nice yard ,but even if I had gone and vetted the yard , this still can happen , who knows what goes on behind closed doors!

I sold my mare to a newby owner, I explained the costs "oh no problem", and the work, "we have it all in hand", she told me there were loads of instructors and stables in the village.
in the event, they took the mare to a farm and stuck it in a paddock with loose barbed wire, no stable, no lessons, I had been riding the mare as much as possible to make sure it was fit, but they needed "three months off" to make sure they "bonded"
I got two SOS's, and responded straight away, the mare is the most obedient and sweet natured thing ever, they had just ignored all my advice, and in the end I took my yearling back [not paid for], and they never returned any of the "extras" which I gave them as a discount for buying both, so they did pretty well, and I am so sorry that I let my mare go to them, she was a real sweety, and although they were not cruel, they just wanted to say "my horse" is ya ya ya ........ no matter what you do you cannot allow for human nature, which is not very nice at times.

And herein is the reason why I now have two horses! Just bought a new one because 'the price is right' but will never, ever sell my old boy, loan him maybe, but he will be mine till he goes to the 'big pasture in the sky' so that I retain the right to say who has him and who doesn't!

Glad to hear it- more info please! How did it happen? etc!

the lad that bought him finally gave in and said i could have him back , i was amazed ,we went up to get him and he was stood tied up , his eyes nearly popped out of his head when he saw me .........he dragged me up the ramp of the wagon as if to say come on lets goooooooooooooo hahaha

He is now happy back in his paddock and we have so much fun

i have learned a lesson ,no matter how hard times get never give up

i fought for my horse , i nagged and nagged untill in the end hed just had enough of me i suppose ,he never did anything with him so i think he just thought send him back !

which i am so over the moon about
