Last night I went with my OH to visit some clients who he teaches.

We were driving through an area near Swanley when we saw a flat bed parked up by the sde of the road with a group of men standing by the side of it with an older foal or possibly a weanling standing no more than 13hh.

It was in a complete driving harness, blinkers, roller etc and they appeared to be attempting to lift the baby into the back of the flat bed.

I really wanted to stop and say something but given the reputation of some of these individuals we didn't.

I can't stop thinking about the poor little thing and whateventually happened to it or what sort of a life it will have.

I thought about ringng the police but they wouldn't even come out when our tack was stolen so didn't think there was any point.

Bl**dy hell. Are you able to remember what these people and the pony looked like, and the exact whereabouts of them? And have you any idea where they might be from? I wouldn't have stopped either as you never know with these people but I would suggest phoning RSPCA or ILPH, who might be able to either help, or give you some information of what you could do. Also It would be worth contacting the police as they do have animal welfare people/inspectors sometimes. They might be more bothered if its for the good of an animal (hopefully!) sorry to hear about your tack as well by the way x

I will give the RSPCA a call today but it was gone 7pm last night when we saw them so didn't think anyone would answer.

I wish I had the registration plate but we have a fair idea of where they are from.

Think I will give the police a call because my Conscience won't let me forget it!

Its unlikely to be stolen, almost certainly belongs to pikeys. To be honest I am not too surprised, round here I have seen foals pulling trotting cart things (literally still have the fluffy little short tails). Hate it, it does my head in.

I don't think they were stealing it - I am just appalled that someone would drive something clearly so young or attempt to travel it in that way!

Ive seen similar and hubby has been bashed up for intervening when the youngster being flogged has flipped over onto its back on the road. Also regularly tow them tied directly to the back of a Transit van and one which is not driving slowly.....it makes me sick.

How awful, I've seen travellers kids driving extremely young trotters though Leeds during tea time traffic, it left a me feeling physically sick as I caught a glimpse of them while driving, to see this poor young animal sweating and slipping about on the roads while young kids with clearly no road sense or any care in the world for the pony sat there laughing and whipping it to go faster, you never forget images like that but if yoiu say anything they just give you abuse back.

Do you know I saw an overturned horse trailer in the same area on Tuesday night, a mare and very shakey little foal were on the other side of the road, I dread to think how they got the mare and foal out of the trailer
