Well, those who knew my old dog's love of our bed at night would be shocked to hear that little Harvey slept downstairs in his basket inside the dog crate. He had a bowl of water and his kong wubba for company.
We were deciding what to do with him when he just climbed in his basket, snuggled himself under the blanket and went to sleep. Decided that if he was happy to sleep alone, then perhaps we should encourage that independence (hopefully helping to alleviate separation anxiety if we always keep him with us now).
He slept very well, although he was only left for five hours. Not a peep was heard. When I came down to him this morning he was lying in his bed but awake. I lifted him straight outside to the toilet where he produced two wees and two poohs.
Clever little puppy. He's had a little play and eaten all of his breakfast. He's now resting for half an hour, to let his food go down, in the crate whilst I pop out to see to the horses.
All is good so far. Dog crates are the bees knees. The first 20 hours already seem easier than when I had Jasper as a pup, without one.
