It is exciting, but exceedingly tiring - esp. when you have problems and need to assist the mare or the foal needs help to find the milk bar, or the mares colostrum is poor and the foal has to be bottle fed frozen colostrum (defrosted obviously), or the mare is foal proud - had a big problem with one that was like that last week - moody mare!!!!

Yeah, he'll be fine!! I think she is - she's still a bit bemused about her new home! She's gone from rolling green hills, to flat, peat land, with no grazing at all on less than a postage stamp! Hey ho - winter turn out I suppose! Her milk supply is finally giving up the ghost!! Should be able to start actually feeding her in a week - YAAAYYYY!!!

LMAO!!! We had a colic too last night!! I had to send for the vet twice and the mare ended up going to the clinic in the early hours of the morning. She wasn't one that foaled last night - she foaled the night before. I think she will have been opened up by now - I really hope she's OK, she's a lovely, lovely mare - bit skatty, but STUNNING, with possibly the best baby of the bunch so far!

How did you get involved in stud work?.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good question - not entirely sure - just knew it was what I wanted to do. At least at the time it was. I wasn't too picky aobut the type of stud work either to begin with, but now, unless it's for myself, I will only ever work for TB stud's - better pay and conditions!!!

Basically I replied to an ad in H&H about 12yrs ago for a trainee's at a stud. I needed to find somewhere for work experience for college and I worked there around college for 18 months! If I hadn't gone there, then H probably wouldn't exist, as I would never have met B's Dad and been so determined to find a good mare by him to breed from. I had previous expience, from working for a couple who bred Welsh Cobs, whilst I was in school.
