I think I have the laziest dog ever - any challengers?

I've always had cats, who are obviously serious career sleepers. Stan is my first ever dog and I just cannot believe how lazy he is.

This is what he's done today:

Woke up at 6:15am
6.30 am - 7:30 am trip to the yard, including a very brief off lead run (10 mins)
Asleep by 8am when we went to work
Woke up when I came home at 12:15pm, had a wee, had a snack, went back to sleep
I woke him up at 4pm and dragged him out for a 20 minute game of ball at the park
It's 5:05pm and he's asleep.
He'll get up briefly to supervise us cooking dinner, but other than that, he's done for the day!


So he's pretty much only been awake and active for about 2-3 hours today! Obviously we don't know what he gets up to when we're at work, but we assume he sleeps (apart from the occasional brief post-killing - who needs bills anyway?! :) )

He's only 20 months old!

Can anyone beat that for a lazy dog?! I know people whose dogs insist they get up in the morning - Stan will sleep in as late as we do and even then he doesn't always get up.
 
Yes mine are fairly lazy.;)It was my day off today so I slept in until 9am:eek:

Managed to persuade the dogs out for a pee in the garden,then they went back to sleep until about 10.30am.

I took them out in the car to go for their walk,arrived at 11am,we went for a walk for a couple of hours.

Then I did some shopping and they slept in the car.

I got home at 3.30pm and they had some food,and they have been asleep since then and will sleep more or less until tomorrow morning,with just the odd break for a pee and some more food later.:)
 
My dog's pretty lazy in the morning. My dad's a postman so we got him on the condition I'd get up at 5.30-6am to clean up any mess and let him out/feed him.
He was housetrained after day 2 and won't get off the couch till 7.30 to help my sister and I get ready for school/college, then back to sleep till 1.
 
Now its winter mine wont get off their beds before 8am !!!!

I have to admit on my first day off nights they dont often get a walk until the afternoon and they sleep with me on the sofa easily 10am to 3pm without getting up. Now its winter it is warmer to sleep on the sofa with an Buster and Teal lol
 
Dogs sleep about 80% of the time:)

Some of it is light sleep so they sre on 'alert' some of it is proper deep sleep:)

This is why I don't get my knickers in a twist about leaving them for more than 4 hours:D

PS if you think Stan is bad you should see Sweep:rolleyes: if he is awake and on his paws for more than an hour a day I would be surprised!:eek::rolleyes:D:D:D

But then again he is 13.......;):D
 
Our oldest (coming up 12 and a medium/large mongrel of very indeterminate parentage) has always had issues with going for walks and we gave up long ago as he's just happier at home.

He pretty much sleeps all the time aside from getting up for feeding (he drags himself into the kitchen only when he hears the food hitting the bowls) and then a mad few minutes every afternoon/evening when he fancies playing with our other two. In nice weather he'll even make the effort to go have a run round the garden :eek:

I've no idea how he manages to stay looking so trim and healthy when he does bugger all :D
 
Flora is the laziest Vizsla I've ever known! On days she isnt working she gets up and comes down stairs somewhere between 11am and midday. Eats, goes back to sleep on the sofa until walk time, comes home from walk, sleeps until dinner time, eats dinner....sleeps some more! LAZY!
 
Heck, I wish! :rolleyes: Bear is up an' attem from when he gets up (around 8.30), right the way through till about 5-ish, when he might just consider a nap! :eek: If he does have a doze, it's usually for about an hour, then it's guns a blazin' till he has his dinner - at about 7.30. After that, he's on the go again until his last 'pinkel pause' at 11..........:eek:

He does sleep well, though!! ;)

Have to say, it cream-crackers me, just reading that! :D
 
I think I may have a contender! :)

I bought a GSD pup wanting an active, versatile partner in crime. This is the reality:

10:30-11am: I decide that I really, really should get up. The day won't be that bad. I should face it head on! Dog is upside down in his nest. I throw on whatever clothes are nearest and go for a walk through the woods. (It's worth noting that when I'm in lectures/seminars early, I get a look of death for dragging him outside at 7am. Really, you'd think I was the damn antichrist.

12ish: we return from walk. Dog resumes upside-down position either in his man cave or on my bed. Will occasionally lie flat out at my feet if I'm working at my desk.

Periodically, on some days, between 12-4pm: One member of bar staff that doesn't freak out over 'the dog that is OMG TOO HUGE' (which causes a "OMG! The HUMAN! IT stares at me and acts so weird!!" reaction from dog) visits the flat for cig breaks. Dog winds around her legs and rushes to me to tell me all about it. The goes back to sleep. Upside down.

3-5ish: Depending on how we feel, a bit of a run about the golf course or nearby woods. Might meet other dogs to play with. Lasts anywhere from 20-40 mins. Back home to lie on back and snore.

5pm: Tea. Then go back to bed and snore more. Whilst upside down.

10pm: A quick 20 min run across the golf course and car parks, for last wees and poos. Might check the building, as it's a favourite game of his.

12pm - 11am: Puts self in bed and sleeps upside down. Because really, what 18 month old doesn't need 11 hours (or more) of sleep after a day of doing... not a lot. :confused::confused:

(I should point out we do quite a bit of training on walks, and at least 2 sessions a day in the house of a minimum 10 mins. including basic obedience and scent work. Not that he's all that bothered. He's just a lazy *****e. :o:()


Edit- I'm going to make the most awful confession! A few weeks ago I was quite ill. Temperature was raging and I wasn't quite 'with it' if you see what I mean. Bless the poor dog, I let him out at 11pm and he was still snuggled up to me at 2pm the next day (I was still running a high temp and had slept comatose-style through my alarms). For three days all he had was toilet breaks whilst I hallucinated my way outside with poo bags and a vague idea that dogs couldn't use toilets. He spent the rest of the time flopped on my legs. Which sounds sweet, but he weighs 40kg and I had a raging temperature so in practice I just woke up a lot convinced I was an amputee. Still, he should have a medal for those few days, as his walks really were neglected, poor lad.

Happy dogs are tired dogs - what I've always been told.

Ours either runs about like a mad man for a bit or goes on a huge like 3 hour walk at least and then sleeps for the rest of the day - she won't get out of bed till 12 if she had the choice and takes herself back to bed at 8 !! x
