Hello,

For those that commented thought I would post an update http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/sh...amp;PHPSESSID=.

I asked owner if I could hire a school and about vetting and this was the reply I got! -

Hi, No the flexion test is only part of a 5 stage vetting and not a 3 stage. I will not agree to have this done as it can cause lameness if done badly.
I have not got a school that can be hired locally, if I did I would hire it myself. I can't show him to the best of his abilty at this time of year as I have explained before.
It is probably best that we forget it as, if I could work him in a school I would want much more for him anyway. He has been jumping 1.20m at home so I could ask much more for him in the summer months.
I can understand why you want a vetting as it is your first horse but at this time of year we are not setup for it. At £1250 with tack it was the home I was looking for, which will be easier to find for him when the weather improves.
Sorry to have wasted your time.

Which just backs up what you all said! Hot chocolates all round!

She is such a liar!! how annoying for you good luck in your search though

What a load of crap! I also hate flexion tests and lost a sale once due my horse going off stiff for about 2 strides after a flexion test but they don't make a horse permanently lame which is what she is implying. If somebody wants a 5 stage vetting then flexion tests are included, end of.

Something definitely wrong there - lucky escape for you I think.

Pretty proud of myself considering it would have been my first and even I thought it was weird situation!

Anya - I am looking for 14.1+ horse for light hacks. I've had loads of help on here and have had a PM today with offer of help. Considering turning to a dealer in the area with a good rep from what I've heard. That way I shouldn't get messed about as much!

PMSL - Definitely a lucky escape Lauren

Good luck with your search though - let us know how you get on
We all love giving our opinion on here

so if you want any advice on future horses then post away!

I bought Archie in January. It was freezing cold, muddy, you know, the usual. His previous owner was open to me riding him and a 5 stage vetting, which he passed with flying colours. Vet said he was muddy and unfit, to be expected. I think the seller is acting very suspiciously.

I think you have had a very lucky escape.

Good luck in your search xxx

We bought one of our horses in february last year when it was snowing, had 5 stage vetting and the owner hacked her 5 miles to a school for the vetting for us! So there are some honest decent people out there, I personally wouldn't buy a horse without 5 stage vetting. Sounds like you've had a lucky escape!
