Please can someone calm me down.

Last night around 8pm one of my whippets was sick. He brought up all his stomach contents which included quite large pieces of raw hide, dinner and grass. Before this he was happy and content but as soon as he was sick he went down hill quite quickly. He started shaking and whimpering and within a few minutes he brought up bile. This went on for about 30 mins before I called the first out of hours vets. They said just just let him settle and offer him a little bit of water every now and again. They didnt seem concerned as he was bringing up bile.
Now, after another 2 hours went by and he hadnt settled I called another vets (who I trust but are 20 miles away) and explained what had happened. By this time he had been sick 8 times and just brought up the little bit of water I gave him
Once again they didnt seem concerned and was very nice in explaining everything about how he may be sore due to the stomach ache.
This morning I dropped him off to my mums whilst I went to work and picked him up this evening. Although he is not shaking or whimpering he hasnt had hardly any water and has only managed a tiny bit of roast chicken (this is a dog that eats anything and everything!) He is resting at the moment and not his usual self at all.

Should I worry???!!!!!!!

I've got whippets ,yes it's always worrying when ya pets are not their normal self
Whippets are scavengers n eat anything ( most whips )
I bet she/he has done such thing n natural process is to b sick ,as he:she is still taking water I wouldn't worry 24/48 hrs. ,and only feed bland food chick rice or fish n rice ,small amounts to start with and hopefully she get back to her normal self
Quite often my whippets are sick n surprising what they've brought up yuk
But if ur really concerned and ya whippet continues to go down hill I wud call vet again
Has she got a temperature ,what are her gums like
Sorry keep saying she opps

Just monitor him ,has he been in any water ,river, stream etc
Also ( don't want to scare you ) is there been any poison around
One of my whips had caught a mouse who has eaten poison n luckily my whip brought most of it up but was very weak ,got her to vet n got given vit k ( antidote for poison) yes she was fine btw
Go with ya own instinct you know ya own dog

The fact he has brought up part of a rawhide chew would make me concerned he had a blockage. Glad you have phoned the vets again, I would insist they see him.

Yer he is a scavenger... and a piggy.... not like the other skinny one! The reason why i was so worried was that I thought it may have been a blockage due to the large pieces of rawhide that he brought up but the vet said as he is bringing up bile it probably wouldn't be that and they wouldn't even check for at least 24hrs...
I think im so worried as if the whippys are normally off colour a bit they are fine in 24hrs but Alfie isnt.
He is definitely better than last night but he just wont eat or drink....

If he's better than last nite ,try not to worry
I bet he's been sick too many time and now has a sore tummy ( just like when we are sick alot )
Just offer small amount if food to get the gut working again if n wen he wants to eat
Has he been to the toilet in the last 24hrs ( he may not hav much to pass thro if he hasn't eaten)
Also if he hasn't drank try syringing a little water in his mouth or give him a ice cube or watered down goats milk
He's most proberly wrenched his tummy n it's abit tender

But if he gets worse just take to vets

i wouldn't worry about the ating-in fact i'd withold all food until he's perked up. What's coming out the other end?

I had a quick chat with the vet and took him in because when i scruffed him it didnt go back quickly.
The vet checked him and he is slightly dehydrated - not enough to be put on a drip but enough to say he isn't right. He has given him anti inflammatory's and anti sickness injections and I have to take him back tomorrow when they will reassess him. If he needs a drip they will x-ray him to see if he has a blockage but as he hasn't brought up any food since the first time he doesn't think there is one and he is just extremely sore.

Bless my little hard done by whippy! He looks like the world has ended.
They are funny dogs... Tortoise(other whippy)has run through thorns, cut himself to shreds and came out with a rabbit with the biggest smile and blood dripping... but stand on the tip of his tail and you can hear the scream from miles away!

Well that's not entirely true, my boy ate a ton of cobnuts when he was 11 months old (mother was looking after him whilst I was away for a few days, was not happy!!) and he had a blockage. He was bringing up bile and couldn't even keep water down. The vet gave him anti inflammatory and anti sickness jabs, and typically enough when we were walking up the vets driveway he pooped out about 6 large cobnuts! Vet had a good feel of his stomach (he had dropped weight dramatically) and said she was happy that they had all come out as she couldn't feel anything. Thankfully he was fine and the jabs worked a treat as he started eating and drinking again that afternoon. The next step for him would have been x-rays (ast £500 a pop!!!)

I hope your boy gets better soon, it's always so worrying when they are ill!

if he poo'd them out he was not blocked surely

He was blocked for 2 days (well 2 1/1 if you count the morning of the day I got back, flipped at my Mum and rushed him to the vets...), in that time he had not pooed at all, just kept bringing everything up, but mainly bile. He was so, so poorly when I returned to collect him, my Mum didn't even bother to call me or the vet and explain what was going on. I was livid to say the least!!

My vet said that he did have a blockage, albeit a minor one, and he had managed to pass it. She said it is fairly common? Not sure how true that it tbh?

Well the little bu**er woke up this morning and still looked very sorry for himself..... for 10 seconds... and then he cheered up when he realised he didn't feel sick! He wolfed down a little roasted chicken for breakfast and seemed quite happy with himself...
Now the other whippy who ate two dinners last night as Alfie didnt eat his turned his nose up at the chicken this morning and then threw up at my feet!

Took them both to the vets this eve. Alfie is definitely better but not totally right. Im assuming he is week as he hasn't eaten much in 48hrs and he has had a tiny bit of runny doo. Tortoise ended up with an anti-sickness injection to stop him being even more sick. He is definitely much 'arder' than Alfie as he isnt constantly whinging...

Two sick dogs and two rugs that need more than a good clean! The only two rugs in the house wooden floors!!!!!!
