i think im an idiot??

This has made my day! She's lovely!

She looks pregnant to me too, she seems to be carrying her belly quite far back and seen as she's young she may be a maiden in which case (correct me if I'm wrong here, I may well be talking poop) she won't be huge anyway.

How exiting! :D

thanks jessandcharlie :)

the yard does think im crackers. but i am the only one that willingly gets the dentist.farrier.vet and saddle ftter out in 1 month as i knew something was wrong (i was righg there too)....

so this should be no surprise to them lol ! :)

*snort*

i feel like an absolute pillock. (if its true)

i do the prod test and in the past week shes frankly getting p*ssed off at me as the weird belly keeps prodding me back :o but i keep putting it down to general movements

i really really cant contact the old owner. i suspected she was (horse) preggers when i got her.... but we put it down to tub.

Thanks for the pointer to here.

My girl is also getting very p*ssed at being poked and prodded. I keep getting the 'think I saw/felt something move but not sure it's not general movement' syndrome as well - honestly the stress these horses put us throu!!!
We've also got most of our yard going, yup very weird belly shape here - I really wanna know now!! It takes our vet a whole week to get the results of the blood work back.
Watched the video of your girl and there's definately a big belly there - you gotta tell us as soon as you know.

i keep saying shes growing an alien.... but we will know tuesday -

make sure you update us here too on monday about your girly :) x

Just a quick look at your Dec' 2010 vid and I think she looks preggers there, but I am no expert! Either way good luck, I can't wait to hear the result.

OOOO! Exciting!! My little girl is 15weeks off her due date and looks like this at the mo-

I would say that more than likely your girl is preg, but I had a scare with Seri last year where she looked very very preg,(I bought her from a stud) but she just had loose muscles, so it could be a 'grass belly' type thing. Although Seri was out of work at the time and your girl has been working.....
Oh I dont know, just keeping my fingers crossed for you and your girl! Is she having a rectal exam, or is your vet just taking bloods? xx

Yup, going absolutly mental - I wanna know!!!!!
She's filling up even more now so if she's not pregnant then there's something very squiffy going on.
If it comes back positive then we need to work out who daddy is!
Will let you know as soon as I do.:D

I know very little about breeding and foaling, but I do seem to remember reading something that says a foal belly is more to one side when viewed from behind, as opposed to a fat belly which appears equal on both sides.
Hope you get the result you want tomorrow! :)

tbh i havent temped mine.... and im ignorant to what is normal and what is foal like :o

ring tomorow :D im hping my vet ill come out tomorow and be able to look and tell me :D lol!

how is she acting? normal? bless her!!!! if yours is pregnant - is it a keeper?

I would love for her to be in foal - it's really good timing as she's on box rest for a tendon injury. Luckily there was no hole and there's no scar tissue developed. She's on about 5 months now and is sound in walk and should be starting rehab in the next month or two once she's totally sound in trot. She had to be different and do a hind leg - we think it was more the tendon sheath so she should make a full recovery but she's got at least another 6 months out of work so it's very good timing, I was actually thinking about sending her to visit a stallion this spring anyway. Out of possible daddies (there are 3, long story) there's only one I wouldn't want to be the one as he's psychotic, supposed to be a gelding but has been caught at another mare and left nice white gunk on her - nothing will be allowed to develop there tho. The other two are both very nice with good temperments so should make nice babies, one's a chestnut tb and the other's a coloured cob so should be able to tell pretty easily who daddy is once the bub is out (assuming she is actually pregnant).

im ded excited for you now :D

Don't know whats normal for an infoal although it makes sense for it to be up abit as there's an extra body in there - apparently thier temp drops a degree the morning they're going to foal, not sure how accurate that is.
Acting wise she's kinda bolshy but she's either been in her stable or a 20' square pen in the field for 5 months so is kinda fresh - thinking about it she's actually a little quite as she's not bouncing through the gates and I've put her onto a small amount of a stud mix to give her the extra protein, she's not normally on any feed as she's kinda porky at the moment from being on box rest for so long - she gets fat in the summer and usually looses it in the winter.

I got her September 2008 as s just backed 3 year old. She's rising 6 this year.
Possible daddies are my sister's 'gelding' - we were there and they did take 2 but apparently 2% of boys have 3 testicles (we used to joke about this lol) and he is very riggy so waiting to see if it comes out as an orange tb. He has been seen properly covering and it would explain so much about him.
The other possibility is they were in a barn last spring (just our three) and a gorgeous coloured cob stallion so I'm wondering if they got out together as I wouldn't put it past people at that yard (have since left) to not bother to tell us.

If it's Jazz's or the coloured then it will probably be kept, possibly loaned but unlikely to sell. If it's the third (mental welshy sec d) then I want nothing to do with it if there's any hint of that one's temperment as he is simply dangerous - he's supposed to be gelded but the vet can't get near enough to feel or draw blood so the owner doesn't really know.

I'm bouncing already and we don't even know for sure but I can't think of anything else other than a false which would cause the changes. If she isn't then she may well be going to visit a friesian stallion this spring, shall wait and see. - Why does it take a whole week for the bloods, it's driving me nuts!!

Yeh the vet did do a rectal which came up negative however apparently thats not always the most reliable and my vets aren't repo specialists which is why we're following up with blood work.
I have to say if she's not actually pregnant then she has the most convincing false that I've ever seen (not that I've seen many) She's grown even more now (a total of 9cms on her belly in the last 5 or 6 days with no weight gain anywhere else. Her udder's have also increased even more with what I think is the odema infront of the udders also getting bigger.
They don't have the blood work back last time I called an hour or so ago, will call again before they close for the night lol.

Hi Nutmeg! Have you had the results? If she has udder odema and is starting to 'bag' and change shape rapidly then I'd be on foal watch! When you put your hand under her on the balder bit between her udder and stifle (if you get me!) can you feel ticking or movement?
Oh exciting!!
I had seri rectalled when I thought she might be in foal last year and she was empty. If your mares (nutmeg and noodle) are about 8 months along, the vet will be able to feel something on rectal palpation, as the foal gets larger towards 10 and 11 months he would be able to 'shake hands' with the foal! :)

To be sure, I would go down the rectal scan and bloods route, some people just do one or the other, but as the vet is there anyway, I'd get the lot covered!!

Noodle - how did your vet visit go today?? xx

I keep feeling/seeing movement and I'm not sure if it's her moving or if it's a baby moving, but I've never had anything to do with pregnant mares before so not really sure what's normal.
The last couple of days her heart rate, respiration rate and temperature have all been up a bit and she's kinda sweaty - she'd getting damp in a cooler when she'd normally be in at least a medium weight at the moment - so I'm keeping a really close eye on her. The vet's have said just to watch as she's bright and definately eating well! I can see her trying to get to her feed while trying to push baby out :D

No results yet, should get them tomorrow. Once we have positive bloods then I'm going to have her scanned as I believe they can give an idea of how many months she is from the size of the eyes or something like that, that way we can get an idea of when she should be dropping the baby.

my vet did an internal (rectal???) exam

and found nadda :( she said it was 100% accurate this was but she dosent think i have an alien :(

was half gutted half thank f for that as i want to go jumping next week haha

shes been out of work for 5 days and went balistic tonight when i lunged her so not looking forward to getting on her.... :D lol!!!

so will know 100% sure if she has a season or not..... so for now im upping her exercise and focusing on dressage and jumping this season - get her affiliated then put her to a nice stallion in 2013 :)

sorry to hear theres no baby on the way but better for you now you can enjoy your mare this spring and summer.
Exactly the same thing as happened to my mare, and no foalie there either.

thanks :)

realistically i think i would have cried if she had of been because i want to put her in foal in 2013 and that would have gone een further back as i want her going nicely and achieving everything we want before i put her in foal :)

I think thats what you wanted wasn't it? However a lot of the reading I've been doing says rectals aren't 100%, apparently the foal can hide sometimes (this is why I'm waiting on bloods) The other thing is apparently some mares like to be awkward and still show season even when in foal - they do like to confuse us don't they:confused:

There's no reason why she can't do some work even if she was pregnant, just keep an eye on her - good luck with the jumping:D:D

Glad it's what you wanted - I really want my girl in foal!!!! She's out of work anyway so it's good timing, she'll be ready to come back into work at the same time as she would be weaning the foal.

Blood work came back negative :(:(
Vet's coming out tomorrow tho as there is something going on with her - she's losing weight round her girth yet growing her belly, has a lot of swelling and filling round her udders and her temp, heart rate and repsiration rate are all consistently elevated so there's something squiffy happening.

Could there be such a thing as a false negative? Theres definately something odd going on there with your girl - keeping fingers firmly crossed that its something-and-nothing!
Good luck xx

I'm secretely hoping that but I kinda think a negative blood work and negative rectal will take some beating but there is something going on which needs investigation - she's staring to get quite a lot of swelling around the udders as well as those being up.
I'll post tomorrow what the vet says.

aw bless, i just read from beginnin to end this thread, i must say i am dissapointed that there is no baby, but maybe its better to be planned :P

good luck when you do go for a foalie x

Same here, I was disappointed, read all the way through and was hoping someone was going to have a foal.

Keep trying :D

Just rocked up to this thread and by page two had the popcorn open - what a great story! As a neutral, agree with HollyB66 that it's a disappointing there was no foal in the end... but the good news is now you can have fun competing with her (well, fun might be the wrong word given how moody she sounds) and give her the right foal-belly in 2013 like you plan. Hooray! 80)
