Is it worth getting vet to test for definite or just let her get on with things? She's 12 now. I can tell her mind isn't as sharp as it once was as well :-(
I would leave her to it to be honest unless she is distressed or appears to be in pain. Beastie has been part of the forum for as long as I have, it is hard to imagine her getting older
I think tbh I'll just let her be Alec! Why upset her with needless tests to confirm something that deep down I already know. I wish our dogs lived as long as we do.
I have a rescue dog who will soon be 14, she is fit and active to still come on all walks but is not quite so quick on her reactions as she used to be and is definitely getting deaf. I have never seen the need to have this confirmed by a vet, I have just been adding very clear hand signals to commands. Ofcourse she does need to be looking at me at the time!
She is not at all unhappy but I am sad that she is getting old.
Best wishes to little Beastie dog.
My Toller is 15.5 years old, and to be honest, going deaf has been a blessing. She no longer reacts to fireworks and gun shots or even bird scarers!!!! Every cloud has a silver lining eh? I do have to be careful when walking her though, she can't hear cyclists coming up in the forest...she also has cataracts, hypo thyroidism and more recently, a heart murmur. She enjoys a great quality of life though, so all is well in her little world. She barks with excitement when it's mealtimes, wonder if she can hear herself????
