Evening all please be prepared for a rant:D

So this afternoon i was out on a driving lesson and on the way out of the village came across one of the locals out on her horse. She chooses to go out without wearing a riding hat which is her own decision but sitting on an unpredictable animal on concrete without a hat is just plain silly to me. But hey ho it’s her choice. Anyhow today she was sitting as usual hat free on her horse and leading her daughter, who also had no hat on, upon her little pony. Now that to me is the epiphany of stupid why would you risk your child’s life ? The pony was playing up and jogging sideways in front of her horse with its bum towards the traffic, so i slowed right down as it was in no way safe to pass down the narrow lanes round our village. To compensate for the pony jogging sideways with child bobbing about on top she started trotting down the lane and her horse broke into strides of canter now and then before disappearing down one of the side lines. Cue driving instructress turning to me and saying " I think she left her hat at home, alongside her common sense" How true that was, wearing a hat to me is a must and I’m sure she would wish she had put one at least on her child if an accident happened and child ended up with brain damage !

 Rant over, I needed to get the frustration off my chest.

I thought there was a law in which children under the age of 14 (I think) had to wear helmets whilst mounted on a horse?

Very silly, inconsiderate and stupid mother, shame on her not being responsible for her child. Sounds like she left her brain at home too!!

It is against the law for a child of that age to be riding on theroad without a hat. There is no law for adults but there is for children. Personally ( and I don't normally say this) I would be contacting the police to have a word with her as I don't care what she does although setting a bad example but she doesn't have the right to do it with the child.

absolutely disgusting! my daughter had her first canter today she was hatted and back protected up! Stupid women her head her problem but to do that to her child!

Ah I didn't know that, may pop round and show her that, thank you for the link and then if she chooses to do it again threaten with the police, its completely stupid nothing less. I am glad it's not only me who is angered by it :o

Personally I would just get the police to contact her. She won't know who it was that reported her (doubting she saw you in the car?) but if you show her that it is illegal then threatened to call the police, say you DO have to contact police in the future then she will know it was you and could turn on you, if that makes sense? The last thing you need is someone making your life difficult!

A visit from the police from an anonymous source should hopefully be enough to scare her into putting a hat on her child, and maybe even herself.

Didn't even think of that:o so thank you :p will be getting mum to ring them tomorrow morning, im sure others will have witnessed he stupid act.

I can't even imagine why anyone would do that. I live in a family of paramedics (husband, dad, uncle, aunt) who all either ride horses or bikes and the horror stories I hear from them i never doubt the importance of keeping my head safe never mind a child's why would you risk your child's life?!?!?!?
