I think we are moving

That's great Quirky, thanks for your contribution; but as I said, we actually have an ongoing legal dispute (which other liveries were getting themselves involved with) with this person. Not exactly the same as having a mere dislike for someone else. As well as that, we'd had our mare PTS and just wanted a new start. However, I shouldn't really need to justify that.

Fair enough, do what you want.
I moved to another part of the country with my pony about 10 years ago and not knowing the area was a major diasadvantage for finding a yard.
It can be a nightmare but you'll know when you've found the right one.
Hope it all works out for you

I'm sure it will, as I am doing what I want. I was simply updating a number of people who'd asked over the last few weeks what was happening regarding the current yard situation.

It's very easy to say I am being shallow for running away from a person I don't like; quite different when that person's shoddy workmanship and purposeful neglect of his duty has meant you now stand to pay £30k to correct his work and you're in legal dispute (so communicating through solicitors) because of it. Not the same as hating someone because they've got a better pony. If only life was that simple. I pay enough to enjoy my horses, and people at that yard were getting a little too involved in it all. Our decision was to leave and it was the right one; our problem has been finding the right yard, which as Lizzie said, is problematic in these parts at the best of times, never mind when you are trying to get away from something that is ruining your life.

I hope it all works with your new place - certainly sounds like it will be less stressful. I owuld agree with the grazing though and use the sloped field in the summer. I assume you will be leaving them out 24/7 in the summer so can still use the flatter field for a school/jumping etc and then use it as your winter paddock - you don't want to be slipping and sliding all over the slope in mud in the winter getting the little tinkers in!

Thank you, SlinkyUnicorn.

I agree re the field, now. I am a bit blonde and hadn't thought it all through fully yet. All we know is we want happy horses who have all their needs (not mine) catered for. I just thought of it from the point of view of the drainage. However,t he sloped field is smaller as well so would definitely be best to use that for summer grazing and the bigger,f latter field for winter grazing. There is a school quite close by and there is a possibility of me paying a monthly 'subscription' to use it.

Rather selfishly, we just want to be happy ourselves as well. We've had a crap few years with critical illness then this builder taking us for every penny and turning our lives upside down, problems with the yards we have moved to, and for once would like things to start going right. Just some central heating and no gaps round the windows would be nice at the moment.

Good luck with your new place, when we moved down here from Surrey I had a big shock over how horsey the area was, but how few facilities there are in comparison!

Its a shame you aren't closer to me (We are 25 miles from Taunton), cos I'd love to find someone to rent our spare stable out to so that I had someone to hack with, the only thing I miss from Livery is the lack of gossip! We have nice turnout and a big school too

Awww. That's a shame, Shazza. I have 2 horses, anyway, so would need 2 stables.

I am quite lucky in that I married a horsey fella, so we keep each other company! It's going to be amazing in the summer to just walk up there and spend our evenings with them, not having to rush because we have a 30 minute car journey!

Thank you, oofadoofa, but your reluctance to relocate your yard has severely inconvenienced me.

You know the yard I was at for 6 years, as you were there yourself, so you know the kind of people they are - get involved in everything! It just gets to a point where your mind cannot take anymore of it!

I know I'm a bit behind but just want to encourage you to go with the new place. After several yards that started great then went wrong I now have my two at home. 1 1acre and 1 2 acre paddock two stables and a feed room.....loads of mud , no school , no help ,but also rugs that are three years old and still in perfect nick calm contented neds , no vets bills (only jabs) , all my feed and bedding is used by my horses! , my grooming kit is in my grooming box and no-one ever inspects my stables or tells me what day or time I can turn out . Only one word of warning my two now luuuuurve each other so much that I cant hack one out without taking the other

Hehe, please post it, offadoofa! I got loads from Mike. He always used to call my mare a he and my gelding a she, then look at their private parts and laugh! They got bad complexes! He's a nice bloke, but yup, he's a typical farmer!

kiri, thanks for the encouragement. My two already look for each other in the field over all the other horses, and they only spent 9 weeks alone before we went to this yard! I kept a mare and a gelding together in a field on their own for 6 years and they got very attached, but there was also a lot of jealousy there.
