I thought I'd be sleeping in a stable tonight!

Bit of a pointless post but I found it funny at the time.

I had shut myself in a pony's stable to change his rugs, and when I went to leave I found that the kickbolt had somehow fallen down into place and locked me in.

This has happened before when someone didn't realise I was in there and put the bolt down, and that time I freed myself by using a broom handle to undo it. But there were no brooms or anything similar around... so then I tried using the only thing I could reach over the stable door, a drinks bottle, but that was too short. So I tied a lead rope to it and lowered it down on that, but it wasn't heavy enough!

Eventually I gave in and decided that I was going to be stuck in there all night if someone didn't save me, so I thought I'd better phone the YO (whose house is on site) and ask her to come and let me out.

But when I got my phone out, I realised that it's a slimline phone and is long and thin enough to get through the gap between the door and the doorframe and slide the bolt up like that.

I have never been so glad to get out of a stable! I was giggling like a loon the whole time, but it's probably one of those you-had-to-be-there things. Anyway, hopefully it might make someone laugh, and more importantly - if you have a dodgy kickbolt, always have an escape plan!

Sorry.
That happens to me all the time. The kids i nanny for put the bolt over without thinking (so they tell me anyway) I often have to leap rather ungracefuly over the door

I must ask my pony how she flips the kick bolt over when she gets out the stable maybe she has a slimline phone

He, he! I have had this happen a few times, and I jumped over the door in one big leap, yeah right, I climbed over the door, huffing and puffing. Standing on an up turned water bucket.

I always seem to get stuck in the stables with the weave bars. There is no way I would fit my fat a*se though the gap! Luckily there is normally someone around that I can ring to let me out.

Yeah, its happened to me too, my horse has a corner manger, so I up turn that by the door and clamber un gracefully over the door, then let myself back in and put the manger back.

I've got this t-shirt too! I had horses on a yard where all the others were done by 6pm. I went late one night after work, no-one else there or going to be until the morning. Stable door blew shut, heard the kick bolt drop down. Problem- there was an anti-weave grill so couldn't even climb over. Phone was in the car.....! Typical!
The only thing in the stable (other than my dear pony) was a water bucket. Cue the krypton factor - remove metal handle from bucket, stretch it out & feed it out through bars & down to hook up the kick bolt. Have I ever been more pleased to get out of a stable?!

Lol, I once got locked in when working on a yard.
There was no phone signal on the yard and the YO had gone into the house, it was a riding school and no lessons were booked that day so no one could hear me shouting. Eventually I hopped over the door and then looked round sheepishly to check no one saw *like you do*

Me too, a couple of times. I always double check the kick bolt is fully back now, it's not fun trying to clamber over a high door to land ungracefully on your bum. I'm only 5'1, it's an actual ordeal.

I also have this t-shirt, had to ring the lady who i rent the yard from to come to the yard and let me out full anti weave grill, she very kindly sent her 7 yr old daughter who thought it the most funny thing she had seen and could not wait to get to school and tell everyone.
