Well I've seen them flat out plenty of times, but this is my filly which my friend found in the field this morning and took a photo. When I got there, she said that she had seen her lying down, but couldn't see her breathing and when she got closer saw that her mouth was open as well. Thinking she was possibly dead, she said that she was standing right over her before she opened one eye, breathed, closed her eye and went back to sleep again!

Ahh, sweet my mare does that. I can lie down next to her, and lean over her, haven't sat on her though. Gave me a fright the first few times she did it though. :)
 
Argh! I hate it when they do that!!

I went up to get my boy out of his field last year and, in the distance, saw him standing over his field-mate, who was flat out. Now, 'field-mate' is the boss, so quite unusual for mine to be that close, as it's rude, you know?

So instantly on the alert: then saw my boy lift his front foot, put it on field-mates' shoulder and rock his body with it. No response.

HOLY HELL! :eek: By this point, I'm running across the fields, thinking who I should phone first.... his owner? The vet? The YO? I see my boy rake 'field-mate's' shoulder with his hoof again; nose nearly touching his neck... and nothing....

Sh**, sh8t, 7 shades of....

Screech to a halt in the field, heart hammering as my boy turns to greet me....






... and field-mate pops open an eye, sits up on his chest and asks if I have a carrot about my person....:D GIT! :mad:

Brilliant! They have such a cruel sense of humour!
 
Lol! I have an oldie who does this, people used to knock on the door to tell me that there was a dead horse in the field. When we were selling our old place, the estate agent was really worried she had died and no matter what I said he begged me to take a look at her, and yes, she was fast asleep, his relief was palpable :)
 
shy lets me lie down with him and have a snooze - probably so he can get out of actually having to get up and move :eek:, but it is an amazing feeling.

I've not tried that yet with mine - come to think of it, she was off the New Forest, so they're probably quite used to sleeping flat out while the world happens around them....
 
I thought Skinny Minnie was dead yesterday too! She was sparko, I tickled her ears and nose, called her, patted her and she still never moved! I took advantage and snuggled up to her, sat against her belly (possibly stupid, but hey ho!). She woke, lifted her head, looked back at me and went back to sleep. I could have cried, I have never got so close to a horse before, it was magical :)

Years ago in 1986 when I had my TB x was snoozing flat out,I really thought he was dead.Tried to get him up,nothing then he raised his head,made a groaning noise (sounded like a old man) and went back to sleep.I woke him up again.lol lol
