After retiring my WB 2 weeks ago I didn't much feel like horse shopping. Was keeping an eye half open for a native type and wasn't a cob person at all until I saw a local reputable dealer had a spunky little 14.1/2 piebald 4yo. Tried him this morning!!!

He has just over from Ireland and typically very nervy but was ok once I'd ridden him and got on gently. He was just a cute forward going little fluff ball. My riding was heinous and the poor mite prob thought I was squishing him at 5ft 8, but he was a little dude!

So I've come to the conclusion after years of snobbery that cobs ROCK!!

Still a bit worried about being a bit gigantor, took some pics and don't look too huuuge (I hope).

Should really try some others and he was nervous so would require a lot of time, but the basics were really there. I can't believe how cool cobs are.
 
Gosh that sounds familiar - like you I used to have a WB which broke and before that always had TB's it has taken me 21 yrs to drop the attitude that I had about cobs. I brought one 2yrs ago a just backed irish skewbald gelding, he is the most forward thinking horse that I have ridden and a very light and responsive ride - it feels like you are floating on air. It is only when I get off and see his hairy heels that I am reminded that he is a cob!
 
With no direspect to cobs AT ALL (they're fab!:D) in my personal opinion, if you are used to riding warmbloods, wouldnt anything feel forward going in comparison?! Im not a wb fan at all!:o
I am SO gonna get lynched for this now aren't i!! :eek::eek:

Yes I wouldn't have thought I was on a cob, his canter was so smooth, in fact more armchair than my WB which I found really surprising. I wish I could post a pic of him but as he's not mine not sure I'd have permission too. He has an ad on horsemart tho ref: HM036P7ED

Just got to weigh up the time aspect of bringing him on and conquering his nerves on the ground.

Not by me. I don't like em much either! I have one which is half WB and half TB and he is just about ok (because TBs are my favourites) but he is hardly foward. They're just big thickos
 
Cobs are awesome :D
I've also a WB, not idea if she'll be forward or slow going as only 2, in fact I'm worried she's going to be really forward and fast, but from what I'm reading, she may be real hard work lol x

consider yourself lynched. My WB is very forward going and a smart, cheeky little devil

Although in fairness after years of WC's I deliberately went looking for a dumb WB however i ended up with a not so dumb one albeit not as smart as WC thankfully as I am too old and broken to cope with their stubborn streaks
