I've had the old TB boy Biggles for about 6 weeks now. He was given to me because his owner couldn't care for him properly (but owner did give me some finacial help and did obviously care for him). He was lean and weak when I took him on, and being 28 years old I knew time is against us. He also had filled hind legs, one much worse than the other. After days of grooming, feeding and getting his VERY long teeth tidied up and put out onto very ''yummy'' grass with company he was feeling and looking much happier.
However, the one hind leg is still swollen - it did go down, but its back up again now and its causing him distress. He is on anti-inflamatories and bute, so Iam giving him a last chance. If its clearly not working then thats it. He adores fuss and attention, and has become really close and cuddly - he was very much his own company at first.
Heres hoping that it improves, but I'd like to think Iam ready - which I know I won't when that time comes, as I do get so attached. Bless the old boy.

These ones are always the heartbreakers.

Vibes that he can be well enough for the summer at least.....:(

Fingers crossed he can have a happy summer. But please remember that EVERY day you have given him where he is contented and well cared for is a wonderful gift. xxxx

I remember your original post and admire you for your love, care and attention you give to your horse.

I really hope the time you have together, however long, is happy and content and when the time comes to let him cross the rainbow bridge that you arethere with him, doing everything in your power to make his crossing as stressfree and painless as possible. I know it is extremely painful letting go but draw strength in the knowledge your actions, whatever they may be, are out of kindness and love x

Nice to hear an update on the old boy. Whatever happens he has been very lucky and his last days, whenever they are, will be loved, with good company and TLC. I think it is wonderful that you have done this and whatever happens it will be better than what it would have been, however hard it is for you x

I admire you for trying to help this old boy, but I'm afraid I would dispute that the previous owner cared much about him at all. His poor teeth could have been sorted out a long time ago and cheaply. There was no excuse for him being allowed to get in such a state. I remember seeing the photos you posted and frankly, was shocked. Thank goodness though that someone at least is trying to help this sweet old fellow. No wonder he loves you! You could try homeopathic apis mel (30c) for his leg. My old girl gets lymphangitis on and off, and it does a grand job. Great for bee/wasp/horsefly stings too so we share it :)

I was thinking the other day that you hadn't done an update on him and was going to post to see how he was getting on.
Good on you for taking him on and trying to make him feel better and look better. If the worst happens you can still look back on it and give yourself a pat on the back because you have tried and cared for this pony when you was probably his last resort.

B x

Echo what fatpiggy says about the homeopathic route. Costs very little and worth a punt. Then you would never regret not trying. It worked once for me and I'm a very sensible person, who thought there was nothing to lose and maybe something to gain.

What you are doing so far is a wonderful thing - it's not much more to Google a remedy and order it. Good luck and give him a rub on this withers from me.

Hi, people like you give us all hope that when the time comes the right decision will be made and from what I have you obviously care deeply for the old boy. Just remember that everyday he has he is enjoying and that he will have had the best time of his life with you.

Couldnt of worded that better if I sat here for hours on end, totally agree.

Sounds like he landed himself into the right home, no matter how long he's got and I'm sure he loves your for it.
