I have a lovely TB gelding at home. One of my neighbours keeps her kids pony on our small yard so he does have company.
But he is often left on his own when they are at PC which he is fine with. However they keep taking their pony away and putting him in their garden to mow the lawn! This causes mine to become really stressed as he knows his companion is next door but he cant see him!
I have asked so many times over the summer for them not to take their pony away but they ignore it, even doing it again all day sunday. My field is now churned up as mine was galloping around hysterically!
I get on well with them so it would be difficult to tell them to go as we would still be neighbours.
What I would really like is to advertise for another livery who doesnt compete and would hack out with me. it is so boring riding on my own. In the last three years I have been out with livery pony a handful of times but they find me boring as they want to canter everywhere!
If I advertised for a livery to include turnout/bring in what are the chances of finding someone who just wants to hack out sedately two or three times a week?
I am 200 yards off SETR toll rides with hours of off road riding which I am not utilizing as I dont want to go miles/hours on my own.

Don't see why not. When someone contacts about the ad, just make it clear what type of livery you are looking for. It might take a while to find someone who fits with both the time & pace of your hacks, but sure its possible.

hmmm I think this is a tricky one. A new livery may agree to the terms, but if they don't enjoy hacking with you (for whatever reason) then you may find yourself back to square one, with a livery to boot.

I have been riding out with a nervous rider on and off for a year now, and tbh, I now much prefer riding on my own, as I find it quite stressful (yes I admit it). I am now in an awkward position to say the least.

I am sure there will be someone out there, but do bear in mind that things may change further down the line.

Good luck x

I am the same although no neighbours pony. I'd advertise for a hacking partner to keep their horse at yours for a reduced fee and then if you don't like them don't take them in.

I actually saw someone on a horse near my house the other day when I was driving somewhere and I soooo nearly stopped and said did they fancy some company at times but I just thought I'd look like a sad looney so didn't do it. Kicking myself now however as I've lived here for 10 years and never seen anyone hacking in the locality!!

As Shysmum says you could find you're out of the frying pan.... Why not consider a small companion pony and then look for someone local, try a riding club maybe, to hack out with?

I think it should be fairly easy to find someone, and even if it doesn't work out with you hacking together at least your horse won't be going crazy as it will have company! How much land do you have and do you have stables etc? You could always get another horse (teehee any excuse!) and find a sharer who would ride with you then you can have a bit more control over who you have and what you do when riding together :-) or someone with an older horse who also wants a sharer for it, best of both worlds!

Hope you find someone I know being on your own can get pretty boring!

Thank you for the replies.
I have put to adverts up in local feed merchants today.
The wording is Adult only who hacks out 2/3times per week wanted.
£30.00 per week to include turnout /bringing in etc
That way I have control when they are put out etc.
my neighbour puts them out at 6 am before she goes to work as she like to muck out for her kids.
Then they don't bring in until dark.
I can't bring mine in earlier as theirs will be out on own - she moans if they are in!
I am a mug! My yard my rules but she doesn't listen to a word I say!

I have been dreaming of someone like you to turn up on the livery yard I am on. My problem is that no one can hack in the morning as every one is at work. You sound just my cup of tea, such a shame I am no where near you. Good luck.

Signed up? Niki STARTED the page - best idea ever

Thanks Aus. Blushes. :o:o:o

Well done nikicb, I was going to post this link too, I've signed up already have you?

I'm still waiting for someone nearby me to post on the page, even though I have quite a few hacking buddies there is always room for more :)

Thanks Holly - have you posted your location on the wall yet? I try to link people near to people who have already posted if they are within around 10 miles.

We've had a few successes already after only a week. :)
