I love maxi cobs, i love cobs in general.

I want something young - 2 - 3 - 4 year old would be nice.

Where can i look for a nice cob?

Would rather go through breeders - studs - and so on rather than advertisements on different horses for sale websites.

Im quite tall so it would be nice to have a maxi cob - i love their size and their presence.

Any links or people who know some breeders or studs would be most welcomed.

If you up to it and have someone who know's what they are looking at then Irish Sales are the place to go. I bought both my boys direct from the auctions in Ireland. One lad has only made 15hh but he does me and has a fabulous termperment, the other boy I got 2 years ago as a 3 year old is now 16.3hh and a beautiful heavy weight cob. Both are bombproof in traffic and have seen alot for their ages when bought. They cost me alot less than they would have done in the UK but obviously you have to cost in transport, I live near a port that runs directly into Ireland so transport wasn't a massive amount for me, around £150 per horse so all in all I go 2 amazing horses for what I would have paid for 1 here.

There are some dealers who specialise in cobs - but be sure to check their reputation first.

I bought mine through a private sale - i wouldn't rule this out especially if you are looking for a youngster.

Just that when I have seen cobs at breeders etc a common complaint is that it is very hard to judge where a cob will end up height wise so perhaps would look to buying a 3 year old and not a much younger one.

If I was after another I would look at the Spanish-Norman, (Andalusian/Percheron cross) which have a gorgeous combination of substance and presence. Try 'Rancar Stud' to see what I mean....

Good god yes! They are amazing horses.

TBH I fell in love with the percheron as a breed a few years ago after working with a few youngsters. Amazing breed, heavy but lovely active paces and a good brain. I even knew one with a arabs tail who could do the full elevated trot! Percheron/TB is another to def look out for.

You can't beat a Percheron X. Mine has done everything, this is him the other week:

Ohhhhh wish I hadn't looked!!! They are fab!!! What's the temperment like on a Percheron cross? Not a breed I know much about.

Vanner & Starbar - Thank you. He is about 17.2 hh and is 18 yrs now. Bought him as an unbacked, uncut 3 yo. He had that "something" and yes he does have big feet. We retired him to the hunting field after years of doing SJ/HT/R/C teams 1DE etc but only up to 3ft. He is a perfect gentleman with a lovely temperament but is no plod. Always full of it and bouncy but polite with it.

I've got one. A weanling thats going to make 16hands ++ with tons of bone and loads of quality. He has excellent conformation and beautiful markings. He moves like a warmblood. Loads of presence, I picked him out of a herd of 15 and he was the one that out of loads of quality youngsters just 'took your eye' He also has a fab temperament. Hes going to grow too big for me, but I'm loath to sell him as hes a gem! However, if your looking for a weanling then PM me as with this awful weather all of mine are seconds away from being free to a good home :D And as I have no 'use' for him if the right home came along I'd let him go :)
