Just saw the Hobbit. All I will say is - EPIC. I wanted it to be longer!!!

Anyway, all I could think was "I want to ride there" and got incredibly jealous! I wish I had hacking, even remotely similar to that. It made me sad that there are so many roads and cars :(

Rambling, pointless thread, sorry!

Doo iit!! Apply for a working visa and come on over its lovely and warm here.

I just got back from a 2 day/3 night trek with some serious bush bashing and lovely views was $135 with meals and you could hire a horse for $60. Check out Horses 4 Fun on the web :)

Oooh that sounds fab!
Though, I want to do it with my new boy Ned! I'd love to just set off, not knowing where I'd end up. But sadly, if I set off, in any direction I'll hit a town/city within a few miles!

Could you maybe plan an adventure for the spring/summer? If you get organised in advance (not like Bilbo running off putting his coat on while on the move :D) you could maybe ride somewhere in Wales or The Peak District (Mary Townley loop in Rochdale/oldham, takes about 4 days has B&B's with grazing/stabling for example). Organise transport to and from the area and plan a route :) Worth planning, even if you can't manage it this year :)

Come on down here with him, we have lots of lovely hacking, forest, beach, cliffs, heath rides, and you can do all that with very few roads, mainly just lanes!! :)

I have the same thoughts, I used to work as a guide in NZ, we could ride for days in the mountains and valleys without seeing more than a gravel track, but here I am straight onto a rat run road that gets busier every day. Is go back to NZ in a flash if my family and horse weren't here.
