I keep roo at a gunshop, that has some stables, and a field. There is also a 'patch' of grass where we ride. But as you can imagine, if it rains the grass gets boggy and unsafe to ride on. Can't go hacking unless you go through the cow field, I'm scared of cows, after being chased round that field before.
In the year I've been there, I haven't been too bothered, the people are nice, theres only 8 of us. We only pay £10 a week so cant complain.
However, I've now started working on a yard, its a riding school and livery yard. They have an indoor arena, outdoor arena, course of showjumps, xc fences, lots of fields and hacking. The people I have met so far are lovely, and now I really want to take Roo. Its £20 a week DIY, and you get soo much more.
I haven't asked if theres any stables spare yet, but I want to move there

A small part of me doesn't want to move, because the people I have met here are lovely.

TBH for an extra £10 a week you get ALOT more! If it was me, I would move, but thats because the facilites are quite important to me! If the facilities aren't important then don't move, as you are happy. think you have to decide wether you would be happier with more facilities or happier with the people. Also the bonus is if you work at the yard, you can always keep half an eye on him!!

Thanks NingaNoodle: I never thought the facilities were important, but working there (I've only done 3 days so far) every time I see the arena I just wish I could take Roo in.
The people at this new yard are as nice if not nicer then those at the current yard, but I'm quite shy around new people.
I only work at the yard once or twice a week, just as something fun to do. But as you say, I'd be able to keep an eye on her, at the moment Roo is living in field, so when I go to that yard I don't see Roo. So in Winter I'll need to either get up early to sort her or move her. (I dont mind being up early, but won't be able to ride her much) Also, if I need to, at the new yard I could put her on full or part livery for a week if I can't get there or something.
I think my mind is pretty much made up, but I need a space at the yard, and I need to find some form of transport :S

For what you get for you money I would move!! I think your riding and Roo would get so much benefit from being somewhere like that. Check on a stable and also check how easy it is to use the facilities - whether you book, pay extra etc Will also be so much easier to keep Roo at the same place you are working in the winter - you will be able to finish work and ride rather then having to travel somewhere else and start again.

Good luck - and do it soon as winter is coming so people will be looking for places now.
 
Personally I would move as the facilities provided at a yard are important to me. Make sure you ask about any hidden costs (use of school, lighting, how much part/full livery is, whether you are allowed to bring your own instructor on and if you are will be charged for use of school), and what they expect from you, e.g. field maintenance, being present for shoeing, ect. I am moving yards a week tomorrow so wish me luck! Hope you manage to find the right yard for you and horsie

I wouldn't want to take an outside instructor, as the man I work for is fantastic, I've watched him teach riding school pupils and I would definitely be paying him to teach me whenever he can fit me in.
I will ask about the prices, I have to work around his lessons, but most of the time they just use indoor school, only use outdoor if they double book lessons.

Move Move Move.
I was on a yard for about 12 years and i wish id moved sooner. Yard used to be great and is more geared towards kids (whick i was at the start) and was better run years ago, started to go down hill and at the end was really awful. Eventually moved and it was the best thing i ever did. Only wish id done it sooner as my horse was so much happier and so was I.
