I'm seriously craving horse contact, I feel deprived :( I've lost all confidence and I feel like lessons would be too nerve-wracking at the moment; I don't suppose anyone knows how else I can get back into it? I appreciate these suggestions might only be magic ones! What options do I have?

Look out for someone local who needs occasional help with theirs? Even if it's petty in the field or grooming. It all helps :)

When I needed help with mine, even just for grooming/checking over/light riding I couldn't find anyone to do it who didn't want paying a fortune!

Hope you get your horsey fix soon ❤

I contacted the local RDA but after a few messages, they never got back to me :( Worth following up at some point though. And I've searched and searched for local owners - within walking distance as I don't drive - to no avail; I've previously worked at two local private yards, the nearest school is too official and intimidating for what I need, and the second nearest I've helped at before adn don't think it's right for me. (Does that sound awful?!)

ChristmasSparkles I really am bearing that in mind :) Though I worry I'm too novice for you and yours!

Don't be silly :) The bigger one will look after any rider, he's a sweety. :) Fields are too miserable atm to do much anyway tbf!

Do you have any rescue centres near you. We have a few around here that love people who want to help and the good thing about that is there tend to be lots of volunteers around to help and teach.

I can't get anyone to help me! I hzce two in full work, an oldie who wants to potter and two recently broken coming home shortly. Advertised looking for help of any level as even if someone rode the old boy that would help, nk contribution and I got nothing at all. Nightmare! On the plus side having 5 to ride will help with the pre Christmas diet!!!

How about putting ads in your local little shops/tack shop?

When I was looking for a horse to share, no one was advertising so I wrote out a few little ads to put in the shops all around me - my logic was that the little shops were local and everyone needs to buy milk! lol!

I had more calls from doing this than the local tack shop.

The lady who I now share with said that her and other people on the yard had advertised in the past and ended up with the wrong sort of people (a man who came and she invited him to tack up as a basic gauge of knowledge but he put the saddle on back to front/ complete novices who had always 'fancied having a go' at riding) so a lot of horse owners might want help but can't be bothered filtering through the replies!

Good point Sharer123 especially if you are looking for something very local you want to advertise in the places they will definitely go, just put something like 'help with horses offered' a few details, experienced rider if you are, maybe 'happy to help with youngsters/retired' and your number and see what you come up with, you never know!

Where are you based?

I don't have any rescue places near me unfortunately, not even for cat and dog volunteering.

ChristmasSparkles, and re: the local advert, I would just be worried I'm not experienced enough (CS your horses sound lovely though!) - I've hacked out a little, but never alone, and had a bunch of lessons, but I still think my seat needs work, my balance and position, I get nervous at the canter, I have jumped small, but...I guess I just don't know how good I am! A lot of it is due to nerves, for some reason I've lost ALL confidence so I even worry about stuffing haynets right, and trotting (I have obviously done both a million times!).

mandwhy - I'm in Gloucestershire.

I don't understand why lessons would be too nerve wracking. Wouldn't that be the safest way? Most places will have lots of very quiet horses which are suited to nervous riders. Just phone somewhere and explain, job done :)
