join Riding Club. But I'm scared.

I want to join the Blackdown Riding Club, but don't want to be launched into cliquiness etc.

What happens when you join? Do they have meetings and stuff?

I can't be the only person to have never really done the whole RC and PC stuff..?

Its not the Klu Klux Klan!!

Sorry, didn't mean to be facetious, but there's nothing to worry about. I'm a member of several RCs, usually all activities are voluntary. There might be shows, training nights, meetings, talks, dressage days, parties etc etc.

Some clubs ask you to commit a couple of hours to helping eg, setting up, stewarding.

Most of the clubs I'm in, you can't tell at shows whether people are members or not, its like any social activity, you get out of it what you put in. Most also run points leagues and qualifiers for members only, and training is for members only. Have they got a website?

If you want to sit at the back and just watch everything, no one will mind.

Enjoy and good luck!!

I thought about doing it before, but now I have my own place instead of livery yard, it's become even more important for me to get out socialising with other horsey people besides my husband!

I too never made the transistion from PC to RC...........
I too am worried about the cliquiness...........

But there is some great ones out there, the local area one is a clique - but I have found a smaller club based around a yard which is great and so very helpful, great shows on etc.

The BDRC lot are pretty good - I have helped out at some of their competitions, and it seems less clique-y than T+DRC. I keep meaning to join BHRC but never seem to get round to it. I'm currently the secretary for SVRC (Dorset based) so I know that club inside out, but I'm assuming they are all pretty much the same - activities, camps, shows etc and you can do as much or as little as you want!

I don’t know about that riding club but I’m a member of two of my local riding clubs. They do all sorts of fun things, from Summer Camp (5 days of pure horsey fun) to XC clinics, to fun shows! Everyone is so friendly and it’s all quite low key.
Go on join, I bet they have loads of fun things arranged.
