Well on Thursday my Mum was legging it round the yard like a nutcase... she was getting things out of places and putting them in other places, and putting a load of stuff in the lorry. She had said the day before that we were going to 'camp. I asked wise old Henry 2 stables up about camp, and he said it was something humans did in tents. Now, I don't think my Mum is stupid, but did she SERIOUSLY think I was going to fit into a tent?!

Eventually she put me on the lorry, and off we went. I liked the journey... Mum played some music and I had hay, and a lot of it was on a nice straight road that was really smooth. I did get a little bored after an hour so had a conversation with Mum, but didn't get anything interesting out of her so shut up and went back to my haynet.

When we stopped she opened the lorry up and we were at this big place with lots of stables, not a tent in sight! Goodness knows what Mum was on about with the camping thing. I had stable number 1 (Mum said it's cos I'm special, I say it's cos she sent the form off really early), it was smaller than my nice stable at home, but it had STRAW in it! Yummy! Mum didn't seem to agree with me on the yummy front, so I just snacked on it when she wasn't looking. The other bonus was that there was haylage! :D

That first evening was spent in the stable, although Mum did take me out for some grass which was nice of her. Then the next day I got the shock of my life. Mum was there to muck out, at 6.15am! Daft human. She looked very tired and said she hadn't really had much sleep, but she mucked me out and put a 'day bed' (why do I need to sleep in the day? That's what the night is for!) down and wandered off for some breakfast. Then suddenly she was back and tacked me up. It turned out this wasn't so much of a holiday afterall!

We went into this really big arena, and there were LOADS of jumps! We did a load of jumping that first morning and Mum was very pleased with me, although the instructor said she had to get me out of the habit of going on a 'long one'. I quite like going on a long stride... it makes Mum go 'oooh!'.

In the afternoon Mum came back having had food and she had my showing bridle with her! I LOVE showing so was really pleased, but we didn't go into the show ring. :(:( Turned out we had a flatwork lesson - BORING. However, it turned out to be one of the most fun flatwork lessons of my life! The instructor said we were working on 'lengthening'... Now I don't think I got longer, I'm quite a compact girl, but they were all smiling at me. Turned out Mum just wanted me to do my nice showy welsh trot and I obliged, although they all laughed as when I did my bum dropped and Mum felt the 'G-Force', whatever that it. We then got to do it in canter! The other horses were doing poncy dressage stuff, for me it meant go round the corner, see the long side, and GO! It was JUST like being in the show ring! :D

Mum took me out for some grass again in the evening, and she sat and had a chat with people I recognised from the old yard. She seemed to be really enjoying the chat, so I decided to wander off and almost pull her over - got to keep her on her toes! Then it was back to bed in the small but yummy stable.

On Saturday Mum was up early again, and took me out for grass before she had breakfast. Now I don't usually like being stabled, but there was yummy straw so I didn't mind it too much. We had a lazy morning, and she tacked me up at about 10.30, saying we were having a 'private lesson'. I didn't really like it and I don't think Mum did... the instructor kept telling Mum to 'think woah'. I get the feeling that Mum is now an EXPERT at thinking woah, but as she said herself, I am not a mind reader! I would quite like to be TOLD woah if that is what she wants - going is much more fun. Afterwards she said as well that it should have been 45 minutes, but we only got half an hour. That didn't put Mum in a very good mood - something about 'value for money' whatever that is.

I had a short break, and then Mum was back with the tack! She had her body armour thing on as well which always means fun stuff as she only wears it when we're doing something that could potentially be dangerous for her! She got on me and a different instructor came over, and took us out to a field - there were cross country jumps!!! :D :D :D I LOVE cross country! Anyway, apparently I was really good and Mum was very pleased and wanted to do it all again. I did have a slight paddy about the water at one point - water can kill people! But other than that it was really good fun.

Another break, and then she tacked me up AGAIN! We went for a hack around the XC course with a nice cob and my old boyfriend from the old yard! He remembered me and wanted kisses, but we split up a few months ago now and I'm just not interested, so gave him my best 'ears back and nostrils wrinkled' look to put him off. We got to do a few more of the XC jumps, and then for some reason we turned around and went home... it turned out my ex had lost a shoe. Typical bloke! Mum said something to his Mum about me, and she smiled and nodded, but I ignored it and didn't pay much attention.

I should have! The next day Mum was up early AGAIN, and tacked me up, but there was no sign of her hat or anything. Then my ex's Mum came over and she had HER hat. She took me into that big arena with lots of jumps again and we had a jumping lesson. I really enjoyed it as she's braver than Mum and we got to jump BIG! Apparently I was really good and came 2nd in the 'jump off'... it's about jumping OVER surely.

I had another break, and then Mum took me in there. We did more jumping, a bit smaller, but the instructor said at the end that one of the spreads we did was 3 foot... I couldn't see any feet anywhere! Mum was quite surprised as she's a wuss, but very pleased with herself. There's no photos to prove we did it though! I was now very tired, and Mum put me in my yummy stable - but all the bedding had been put around the sides! She had given me a shower first, so I had a snooze while she went off with the little people that visit sometimes and had a 'Pik-nick'. Then she was going backwards and forwards to the lorry, before she put my travel stuff on. Just as I get settled in one place, she takes me somewhere else! I went on the lorry and we went on the nice straight smooth road again, and when we stopped we were back at home!!! I got to go in the field! :D

So this whole camping lark is actually quite fun! Mum says we're going again next year! :D

I know MD! There was NO WAY I was going to fit into a tent!!!

Mum was sad on Saturday though... she got a message from the yard saying that wise old Henry had been found dead in the field. :( I will miss his good advice and knowledge. He always refused to tell his age, but Mum told me he was 30.

I can't wait to go again MandZ! It was sad to get back to the yard and find Henry had gone. All the humans are upset, and us horses are finding it weird without him.

Hi Genie, its Shadow!

Sounds like you had an awesome time at camp, and some good weather too! Did you meet any of the guys from my yard?

I'm really sorry to hear about Wise Old Henry, sounds like he knew exactly what these daft old humans are all about! I'm still trying to work my mum out, we went to that nice Badgworth place again yesterday. I thought I'd be really good and do a super test for her, then I went back on the lorry thinking I was done for the day and she only came back later with the tack wanting to do it all again...crazy human...I was FAR TOO tired by then!!

Oh Genie, that sounds like fun, eating straw and having haylage (shame about the having to do work bit though).

Mum is dragging me off to camp on Friday too, I hope I don’t have to do too much boring stuff, like flat work!

It sounds like you were at Stockland Lovell Genie? I went there in March and had a lovely time even though it was so windy the jumps kept falling over and Auntie Anna couldn't hear the instructor.
Maybe next time I go I'll see you there? I like a good Welsh girl ;) It'll make up for her taking Archie to the beach next week instead of me, it's not my fault I'm apparently too boring to go to the beach on. I'm build for comfort not speed.
