I went splat today, I was hacking out with a friend on my 4yo, we hadn't quite left the yard when he spooked at some coloured poles (they weren't there yesterday!), he stopped, and I pushed him forwards as I didn't want him to spin or run backwards; he put in an almightily buck and over the top I went! I did have a holy Cr*p strap but not enough notice to use it effectively!
Ive somehow managed to sprain my ankle which is now a nice shade of blue/purple and split the tip of my elbow open. He was graceful enough to not b**ger off or to stand on me so at least thats something! We took him back to the stable, then lunged him for two mins, then I jumped on in the school and he was fine so we went back out -past the same poles - but with someone walking alongside him, and hacked for 45mins or so. He was pretty good, a little jumpy here and there but came home in one piece.
Consider myself taught though- I wont be pushing him forwards quite so much next time! He has been a little sensitive to the leg at times too, so I do think it was a combination of things.
He also hacked out for an hour with a friend on tuesday and he was an absolute star- I think I was lulled into a false sense of security thinking he was able to cope with more!
Youngsters eh?
