And fell off for the first time in 6 years  :o

Can probably safley say I was overdue for a fall, but how embarrassing to do it in front of strangers.

I apologies profusely for scaring their horse, who was very sweet and forgiving, and completely not her fault I fell off.

I was riding with far too long stirrups (Western saddle), so basically riding without, then she spooked at something, and I unbalanced her, which meant she sped up and ran away from me, then I came out the side door as she spun away :o as I was trying desparately not to pull on her mouth.

Despite all of the drama, I liked her a lot. She is a good size and build for me - a little lacking in muscle at the moment, but nothing unexpected for a 5yo who isn't yet in full work.

She is quite sharp and sensitive (which is good, I hate a "kick along"), but also calm and sensible given her age.

My aim would be to ride her out over the summer just to get used to each other, then transition from Western to English and get her used to taking more of a contact as she is overly sensitive to her mouth being touched at the moment (change in bit will help a little I think, from a single jointed very thin snaffle to something with a lozenge)

She lunges very obediently and has a good stop, but doesn't offer much in the way of a stretch, again something which I can work on incrementally.

The only real down point is that she has a small wart in her right nostril - and I don't know enough to tell if it is a juvenile-type wart or a warty-type sarcoid.

It's rather exciting to think of a new horse joining my family - I just hope her current owners don't think I'm too much of a muppet to allow her to come to me :o

I can completely sympathise with you as i done exactly the same last year whilst we were looking for a horse for OH. Horse decided to jump off a really long stride and i wasn't expecting it and come a cropper! They must have thought i was a complete numpty! Got back on and jumped fine after that though. Horse wasn't right for him anyway - wish he'd have let on before i'd been used as his crash test dummy mind!!

She sounds nice. I'd get more info on the sarcoid in her nose though, nasty place if it decides to grow.

Oops! Well at least you can say you fully tested her :p and still liked her!

she looks lovely! difficult to tell with the uneven surface, but her back legs look like she's standing a bit odd to me in that photo, is she resting one? will you be having her vetted or even just checked? they should be able to give you a better idea on what the wart is.

I went to view a horse last week. After a number of phone conversations with the owner we agreed a day & time & she was to email me directions. Day of viewing arrived & still no directions! (This should have pre-warned me) I called her & she texted them to me. I was a few miles & 15 mins away from meeting at the designated spot when she texted me saying 'at hospital with friend' no reason given. I texted back saying 'nearly there now'. To get the reply 'well you'll just have to hang around then'. I left a message on voicemail, no response, so I went home. It's not only buyers that are time wasters.

She looks very sweet, I hope she joins your family. :D

I was trying a horse once, got on, was just shortening my stirrups ..... horse bolted off and I did a flying backwards dismount ...... :o

We have someone coming to view one of our horses this weekend - really hoping we don't have any similar experiences!

Good Luck. :)

I've only ridden western once and found it really quite difficult and not at all how I thought it would be!
She looks nice - good luck!

I have ridden Western in the past - nothing serious, but a couple of great holidays in Montana, so I know the basics. Unofrtunately it all goes out of the window when faced with a problem which needs reflex action, not studied thought lol!

I will get her vetted, just to ensure everything is OK, and to get some advice about the wart/verruca in her nose.

Is that one of the treeless western saddles? If so I'd definitely get her vetted or at least look at her back yourself in case there's a reason she's in a treeless as she does look to be resting her leg/standing a little odd. She does look lovely however and good luck with her. I once fell off a horse I was trying getting off! Totally stupid. Swung my leg over his rump really high to ensure i didn't inadvertently catch his bum and somehow unbalanced myself in doing it. Plopped off him into the floor lol. Everything would have been fine with no-one seeing if it hadn't been for my grown up daughter nearly wetting herself laughing at me saying very loudly "mum what ARE you doing down there???" Horse looked at me with total disdain in his eyes I'm sure thinking "what a numpty!" Didn't buy him and haven't been back to that particular yard since taking photos either - waaaay too embarrassing!

Aww she looks very sweet, I fell of my old mare when i went to try her too, in fact i really struggled to ride her it was very embarrasing! but my instructor loved her and so did I.
She ended up being my horse of a life time and i miss her so much, we had a lot of fun together. Good Luck :)

No, the saddle is tree'd.

The surface of the "school" didn't help. It was very deep, so she is standing quite toe-down.

Her feet really need sorting out though, they are well overdue a good trim.

Don't worry, my niece went to view a pony and the owner said she would put a few jumps up in the field as the pony loved to jump. The pony took off after the first jump, as the owner said 'my daughter usually gallops her around the jumps' niece decided to bail out as pony was tanking down a steep hill and she broke her collar bone and ended up in A & E for seven hours. My sister didn't buy the pony.:) So don't be too hard on yourself it could have been worse.;)
