Not me saying this as I am lucky enough to own an amazing cob. This was said to me last night by my YO who has always been a bit snooty about my cob.

When she bought her new horse (ex-racehorse but seems a nice chap) she was strutting around telling everyone how fast he was, how high he jumped, and how he has been round the Grand National twice (don't think any of us believed that one !) She has now found out that actually he is very sharp out hacking, gets very strong when jumping, doesn't like being caught and is generally quite hard work. She was cuddling my cob last night when she uttered the words..."oh I wish I had a nice sensible cob". I just smiled :)
 
I've had warmbloods for years. I now also own two cobs, and I have to say they are far easier than the warmbloods!

I know that's a generalisation, in that you can get sharp cobs and laid back warmbloods too, but its just what i've found in my experience.
 
That's why I'm an Arab fan. They've got the common sense and safety of cobs but they still feel like your traveling in a sports car not a 4 x 4. :cool:
 
I'm another 4x4 fan! Had years of having other types and wouldn't swap my cob for any of them, thank you very much!

I can do what I want, when I want with him, lovely! :D
 
I can do what I want when I want with my ex-racehorse as well and he has enough ability to get me out of trouble no matter how big the jump ;).

I don't think it matters what breed the horse is, I like nice cobs and I like nice TB's. Don't judge a book by it's cover. Being snooty about good your cob is, is as bad as someone being snooty about how talented their warmblood is or how fast their TB is. To be like that at all isn't nice.

I have a Welshie x Arab :) simply the best! Nice and forward going ( he is actually better at 21 years old than he was 3 years ago ) safe in any traffic, but can be spooky ( does a good bambi impression )

A Range Rover in my book :)

No its no, but the post is a light hearted one. I like TB's .......... with other people riding them :p
 
I have the best of both (or three!) worlds with

My TB, My welsh x arab and my new little cob! (And my two lovely loaners who ride 2 of them so they all get lots of love and attention and work!)

My cob is only 4, but she is the easiest one out of all of them to ride - until we try going into a school then she can just stop and refuse to move :) - but we have plenty of time to work on that one!
 
Awww, think I have the best of both too. A cob who thinks he is a Tb but saying that you can't really generalise them my old tb was more laid back and more sensible then my big boy cobbage. I wish he was as (un) hairy as a tb though.
 
Please don't take it that I was being snooty about TB's...the point was indeed lighthearted and it just made me smile that my solid old hairy cob was now an object of desire rather than pity :) I have known plenty of sensible TB's (and to be fair a few very stupid cobs!) but now do prefer my "whatever" cob. But each to their own - if we were all the same life would be very boring :) Oh and BTW when faced with a large grassy track my cob thinks he is indeed a racehorse!!
 
I think I must be the unlucky one I have a cob who thinks he's a thouroghbred! He is spooky and excitable and doesn't have a cob brain at all! Saying that he makes me laugh as just lets say he doesn't really have the grace whilst spooking of his finer cousins. I also have a Welsh Sect d/ thoroughbred, she looks like a little thoroughbred and acts like one most of the time but deep down there is a very sensible cob trying to get out. I love them both but would I have another cob? Not sure but as he is only 9 so have many years to wonder about that one.
 
I love my id x cob.... after years of owning TB's it took a while to adjust but now I wouldnt part with her.
I am so unbelievably proud of my big girl, yes she may be slower, food driven, stinking dirty and poo's for Wales but me, and my family, adore her.
I dont find her any easier to care for than a Tb, just different.
 
I don't get why people get so funny over these type of posts, no one was saying that TB's or any other suit of horse weren't good, just the personally we like our cob-let's! How boring would the world be if we all liked the same thing hey???
 
I have a TB that has been described as 'boring' by my wonderfully confident friends but I still don't feel confident taking him out hacking...:o Hunted high and low for a cob or cob type - a larger version of the one my kids learnt to ride on who was only 5 but an easy, trustworthy hack or a speed demon depending on who rode her... Total confidence on that girl but just too small for me as a permanent ride...

Have a young QH who'll hopefully ready to back later this year... I've discovered when we take him for walks on the road that not only is he totally laid back but I actually walk faster than him which is a feat in itself...:o Once backed and a bit older he might just tick all the boxes and be a range rover... :D
 
Have cob. Well adored by everyone and anyone (he's the nicest, sweetest boy imaginable) but I find him a little boring to ride :o but he's getting better now he's fitter and out doing Common Rides.

Bought a big 2yr old ISH ( TB x ID) and hoping he'll be a cob brain in a TB-ish body. So far so good!
 
My cob is one of few on the yard actually ridden. The rest are with retired through old age or injury or too plain bonkers to do anything. Everyone comments that they wish they had one of him and I wouldn't change him for the world, no matter how many big fat lazy cob comments I get from the people at work. Surely coming back from a ride in one piece and smiling is worth more to them than careering round with no control or being too terrified to get on?
 
I too have a Welshy X Arab. He is the nicest, most genuine horse I have ever owned. Not a bad bone in his body. He is now 19 and still loves hacking out and having a good gallop. I would not change him for any other breed
 
I dont go much by breeds as each horse has been individual and all had good and bad points, my current cob is quite flightly which actually is quite fun. I really do hate people looking down their nose at me for owning one though, my WB goes to a new home next week so they can do it even more then! lol
