I wonder if this bit would work on Jess??

Its not a neue schule. Also, that bit in the right hands could cause alot less damage than a french link in the wrong hands... the bit is only as severe as the hands at the end of the reins

whilst this is true, if this bit got into the wrong hands it would cause a lot more damage than the french link!
 
When I first had my horse he would tank off with me whilst jumping and then slam on the brakes. My instructor made me put this bit on him - I was crying as I didn't want to having seen it, but I was also terrified so I let him put it on. After 20 minutes in that bit he was a pussycat. We then put his normal bit back in and 5 years later we've never needed to use it again. They serve a purpose and I'm pleased I did it now as 20 minutes of letting him know he can't mess me about has given me 5 years of jumping without tanking off. On the other hand, if 20 minutes is enough to last 5 years, how bad must it have been!

ETA - I mean really tank off, flat out gallop, not just pulling a bit.
