We have only seen the teletext which we were only reading as our mare had just foaled. The mare which Ian thought so much off and always wacked the jumps up for. I was taught by Ian before he moved to England from Northern Ireland. We all adored being taugh at him he was so patient never shouted at you and it was always a good laugh. He always called me 'slack arse' in a fun way. His lessons were so much fun and if he hadn't moved to England I would be still taught by him.

He named are OAP (wasn't OAP at the time) 'OB' because he was so difficult and if your northern irish you will understand what that stands for.

RIP Ian. I always hoped I would see you again. There will never be another like you.

Having lost my dear friend Emma in similar circumstances last August I would like to extend my condolences to Ian's family and friends. The shock of such a loss is hard to cope with and like any accident there are things you wish you had said and things you wish you hadn't. The pain does subside and you learn to navigate the hole which is left. He sounds like a top man to have known, there are lessons in course design which need to be learnt and I hope it is not at the expense of another great talent before they are. During National hunt rotational falls jockies dont die, they get thrown clear, throughout a combination the speed is slower and the rider does not leave the saddle before its too late. R.I.P. Ian was a "top man". He had an incredible way of knowing what to say and when to say it! I wonder if he knew how many lives he touched in such a positive way. He dragged me from a black hole of doubt and despair and pushed me firmly back on the path to hope and FUN! Thank you Ian for all you did for us and the many memories you left behind. x

well said Briomac. So sorry about Emma J; I really am. I saw it happen at Hartpury last year and I still havent gotten over it so I cant even imagine how brave you, emmas friends and family have been. I used to live near Petersfield and went to Churchers so it almost felt even more close to home.

RIP to Ian of course xx

Only found out today; he was a top guy and just hilarious. He used to teach me and owned my now retired mare. My thoughts are with his family and friends, and to any others who have ever lost people in such a way.
Sleep well Ian

RIP
