Iberian/Spanish horses honesty please!pro's cons

I know two and they are easy, straightforward, uncomplicated rides! But I think it's like any breed, they are all individuals and a lot depends on how they were raised.

Beware they are very addictive.

We bought an imported mare from Mandy Wheatcroft at Millpark Stud near Leicester about 15 years ago. She was one of those horses of a lifetime beautiful temperament, easy to do and very clever.About five years ago she had to have an operation on her hock and needed 6 months off. So that my OH had something to ride we looked around and found a 7 year old late gelded import near Southend. He was much more of a sport horse stamp with very different paces. One slight issue is that he has had itching issues moving from the coast to the Midlands. That said he is a star in all other ways.

OH's instructor liked him so much that we started to help him find his own PRE. The trail led to Newmarket to Jayem Stud. The colt we saw was really excellent, but our instructor didn't think he would get big enough. Needless to say he came back with us and is now 2.

Finally back to Mill Park, where I got separated from the pack and found an ageing brood (formerly) mare in an unpopular colour that was for sale (never has a horse had more Disney eyelashes). Add in the kicker that she had a foal on board that was related down the stallion line to the original mare and ka-Ching went the till. In June 2012 welcome to the plot Andy number five. The brood mare was re-backed this spring and is now being ridden regularly for the first time in 6 years. I am the jockey and I have been out of the saddle for some years too. We are relearning together. We sent her away to boot camp when we weaned the foal, to get off the baby weight and to begin light work in preparation for riding. Within two weeks of re-backing she was safely hacking on busy roads and to date is only really worried when the tree canopy blocks out the sky, still that is what accompanying geldings are for.

I can't think we would ever have another breed. They are all clever, pleasant, individuals, capable of getting fat on air but otherwise easy to manage.
